Postby gt5 » Sat Jan 07, 2006 2:41 pm

can someone please explain where the air is drawn in for the intercooler
:?:
i have the intercooler off and it looks as if it draws the air in from the grill(between lights) and escapes from the vents in the spoiler is this right :?: as im not sure which side to mount the spray bar

It doesn't get any air
The air is suppose to come in the spoiler top vent and out through the grill between the lights. It's not very good .Put the spray bar on the engine side .

looking at it with the cooler off its impossible for it to draw the air from the engine side as there are no vents or ducting its just a sealed unit at that side and the spoiler vents are facing the wrong way for air to be dragged in they look as if they are meant to pull air out so it works on vacum when the air is being pulled out of the top its also pulling air in from the back grill maybe im totaly wrong

mr gentlemen can you please cast your views as im lost on this

Cut out the fibreglass round in front of the intercooler....I have also added a water spray bar for the odd fast burst. Personally I'm swayed towards the chargecooler kit DG is selling (or will have hopefully soon  ), will sort all the problams for the ECU arriving.....in March or May or August or next year

I thought the air was supposed to go in the grill in the spoiler, over the cooler and then out the back between the lights. This is supported by lee's link to the blue A610 picture.

BUT this "design" seems flawed to me. The air is flowing down the rear glass and is also being pulled out between the rear lights by the vacuum while travelling. How effective do we think the flow of air will be as it is expected to flow downwards while it is being heated up? Bad at best I'm guessing.

Again, DGs short answer sums it up well.

The air goes straight over the top ,have a look at the water droplets on the rear screen next time it rains .

You of all people should know this Simon

I think the theory is that the car is similar to an aircraft wing, the air over the top of the car has to travel faster than that underneath it therefore follows the contours of the car down the rear screen into the plastic vents and out between the lights. Opening the rear window would disturb this flow and would probably assist in engine cooling but distrupt the flow into the intercooler thus producing less power. I think I saw a picture on this site of an intercooler that stuck up from the rear spoiler if I can remember it was Swedish. 8)

Sorry....dont think its possible to take photos down there, not with my camera anyway! If you have had your intercooler out then you can see the fibreglass that needs cut out directly behind it, you should also beable to see the sections at the side where the lights are.....then I just used that cheap foil type ducting that you can buy and secured it to various bits of the frame etc down to the underneath of the car. Not rocket science..obly took 1/2 an hour.

You can only do this if you have the Race Twin exhaust, otherwise the heat from the exhaust box becomes a problem..

i didnt realise you just knocked something together in 1/2 hour i thought you had parts fabricated

has some one got a pic of the art race twin system? as i cant see how it can be that much different from mine, i know my silencer is very small compared to the origanal and sits lower aswell
