The main reason why they recommend the DV near the TB is to keep the vacuum feed to the top of the dump valve as short as possible, so there is less pressure drop on the pressure feed, but this is mainly for 4 or straight 6 enigines, where the turbo is one side of the head, and the inlet on the other. On our engines, where the feed comes out the centre of the inlet manifold, the length is no different.

I'm sure somewhere on the forum someone mentioned that its was beneficial in some way or other to have the DV as near the turbo as possible....or did I dream it?? :shock:

Recirc type, yes .I've got a whooshy one ,only because the ART power intake hasn't got provision for recirc .......yet .........going to get it modded as the noise is really starting to get on my tits :evil:

Supposedly the recirc helps to spool up quicker .There is a school of thought that they aren't needed at all :?

rather than "spool up quicker" I think it is "takes longer to spool down" which is good if you are just about to need boost-on again.

OK....for all you doubting Thomases who have queried the benefit of the chargecooler I have some unhappy proof that it works....and very well!
Adding water to the (now fully installed system) last week caused my minor misfire to turn into a full on disaster area. Running anything above 0.6 bar causes the thing to bang and misfire for about 500 revs when the turbo first comes in. But, I here you ask, how does that prove the chargecooler is working???? (or is that just the little people in my head!! :D ).
Well having fitted my new adjustable fuel regulator today I can get rid of the misfire by increasing the pressure about a bar or more above where it should be. This proves 2 things.....firstly my fuel pump is ill and secondly the chargecooler filled with water (but not even switched on) is a very efficient way of cooling the charge and thereby allowing more air in....so much that it causes the car to misfire due to under fuelling.
My new Halbro 255 litre pump will be here tomorrow and I will be on the rolling road later this week or early next week. :D

Never doubted it for a minute ,just wanted to know how well it works :lol:
It does sound odd though ,it shouldn't have that dramatic an effect if it's not even running :shock: :? All the water is doing is sitting there and being heated .Are you sure it's not chuffed and throwing water into the engine :lol: :lol: :lol:

Bearing in mind Ive only been on short runs in it recently (not more than a couple of miles) the chargecooler veins are filled with cold water that will instantly be cooling the charge. I would imagine that if I went on a run where the whole lot had a chance to warm up the effect would be a lot less dramatic. Remember the misfire was there before I fitted the chargecooler I just didnt know wether it was fuel or spark....so I replaced the plugs and it got slightly better but didnt go away. I have now replaced the regulator for one thats adjustable and has a guage. I know that normal fuelling is 3 bar at idle with the vaccuum unplugged. Running a bar above that has rid me of the misfire......proving fuelling from the pump was the problem. The fact that the misfire was 10x worse with the chargecooler fitted and filled shows that it allows colder denser air in because the mis is caused by underfuelling!

The water won't be at a lower temp than ambient .It is only working when it's moving :?

It doesnt have to be... Water has a specific heat content value 4 times that of air.

Even warm water in a non pumped system is beneficial.

To confuse people on how good water is, temperature of the water is not really important (as long as it isnt 'hot')

Water has a SHC of 4000, air only 1000, Ice, is 2000 believe it or not... :shock: . Basically its not the real temperature of the water that is doing the main cooling effect, simply its ability as a liquid to transfer heat efficiently..
