Clutch Prob?

After giving the Alpine some stick tonight, i am/was having some probs with the gear change at high revs :?: the clutch is bitting about 1" from the floor :?: Any ideas :?:

Excess heat from the turbo could have boiled your cluth fluid as the slave cylinder is on the top of the bell housing...... just under the turbo.

So how she fairs tomorrow.....?

Might be worth upgrading the fluid to........ something better.

:( Still Biting low today, had a word with my grandad, (prev owner who hardly used it) and he was saying the clutch had the same bitting point with him? i.e. pushed down to the deck about 1" out and will start to bite. is there any adjustment anywhere:?: any ideas :?:

Could need bleeding or seal going on cylinder .Get it pressure bled .

When i first bought my car the clutch peddle engaged about 1" off the floor...and soon went altogether. The good news is it was the hydraulics and not the actual clutch (although Ive since changed this myself anyway :roll: ). The most common thing to go is the slave cylinder under the turbo...they arent that expensive but are a bit of a botch to fit. Try bleeding the system first it might just need that.

Check your clutch fork isn't shagged. I know it's rare but it happened to me in London last year, and the symptoms sound the same. Hard to change gear when cold, nigh on impossible to change when hot! Paul Sage changed mine for a stronger A610 one.

Getting pretty common now if that makes you feel any better :( . They must all be getting to that age. As Liam says, make sure you fit the A610 fork arm if you do this job.

Agreed. If the slave cylinder pops in a big way as mine did years ago, it can shatter the weedy GTA fork arm at the same time. :shock:

So that was a new clutch, slave cylinder and 610 fork arm for me all in one go. Well it's worth it isn't it :wink:

Same here, but with a spigot shaft for the gearbox as well!!!! :x

:oops: S--- just had a peek at the brake fluid level :evil: empty!!! all but a few mm, The GTA was at a local garage a couple of weeks ago getting its MOT and some rear caliper work done?????? :(

Have you checked it's not leaking from the master cylinder - check the piston connected to the clutch pedal.
If it's weeping then that could account for your loss of fluid and dodgy clutch.
