yeah the first run which was 192bhp was standard
he has set the apexi for 3 stages of boost 1)standard 2)13psi 3)16psi)
the difference between 2 and 3 on the rollers was a couple of bhp but on the road there is a lot of differnce still got a lot of work to do to get 300bhp :twisted:

just got back from noble and the results are 226bhp@5845 and 238lbft@4026 and thats at 13psi


Sounds about right. One of my standard pearl turbos made 197 before and 227 after with a simple boost upgrade + exhaust.

the piggy back ecu will let me run wilder cams, but yeah the cc would be a good investment or water injection

But it wont sort the ignition timing once it starts to get hot....Youre gonna need the ECU at some point!!!

i wont, every ecu will retard the ignition once the temps get to hot its a saftey device if an ecu doesnt retard the ignition when it gets hot (BANG goes the engine)

when i was quetioning noble about this they said they could sell me one of there standalone ecu,s (and they have a wide range of them) but they would do the same every ecu will do it

Not strictly true. My ECU has Engine Temperature Ignition Compensation that can increase or decrease amount of timing when water temp is high.

You have to turn it on though. It's not automatic. With it turned off the ignition just follows the map.

Also for air temperature too. + timing below 25 degrees - timing above 25 degrees

but if the ignition follows the map amd temps get to high you can start to get pinking
all i was trying to say is without it you can start to run into trouble

what ecu have you got?

True, and that's the - point of my ECU, no knock sensor input :( I think David's ECU has this and can use the factory sensors.

I have Wolf 3D V4 - Still sitting in the box though at the moment...

No car EVER will produce the manufacturers quoted figures .


Was having a tune up at power engineering once when the local BMW dealer bought in a new M3 Evo just to take a power figure - BMW said it should be 326 bhp - RR figure was 326 bhp absolutely spot on. Only cars with intercooling problems or where enough air can't be fed to the engine should be adversely affected. Have seen some standard cars put out more than there quoted figures too. My friend at P.E says TVR's are particularly bad for over quoting power outputs and has seen cars 40 bhp below their quoted figures

when my brother took his starlet gtt to noble he said there was a tvr cerbra there and i dont think it even made 300bhp my brother said the bloke was gutted

The main gain on the GTA is to bin the original ecu. The original throttle pot gives no mapped throttle response like a 5v linear one does, and the MAP signal and air temp signal go into safe settings *early*. Its just how Renault designed it...Other car ecus may have a safe mode when inlet temps get hot, its just the GTA ecu is over cautious.. :lol:

Steve, you may find your Dastek isn't wired up to the ignition system anyway. Ive spoke at long lengths to them in the past, and found they couldnt work with the strange flywheel trigger pickups the Renault/Citroen/Pug V6 use.

:) took the GTA out with the RX7 tonight, ok the 7 is faster BUT the gap now is much much closer!!!both tail pipes lighting up at 16psi :) which impressed our kid sat in the 7, regarding the tec stuff, i did put everything forward to Dastek thats been mentioned before i went down there. everything was a + they came back with. A charge-cooler is next on the shopping list though 8)
All i can say its a totaly different car now, much faster, smoother, pulls and pulls to the redline, i really curse not having the nitrous kit working on the day :(
Anyway ill try and stay off this topic now untill my next visit to Noble :wink:

Ive been inspired to buy an electronic boost controller...the cheapest one in the world in fact!!! It does the same stuff it just doeasnt have a display....plumbs into the boost guage.
Whilst surfing I also found a piggy back unit from Greddy for £200 that controls fuelling.....will be similar to what youve got Steve.....not planning on buying it due to the DG ECU lumbering onto the horizon (he says hoepfully), but it would be useful for running big injectors and checking on air/fuel mixture. It plugs into a lap top....sounds neat.

Mr G, I know that your super duper all singing all dancing ECU is still under final development, but is there any function these gadgets have that the DG ECU wont have?
