Rust - Rear Wheel Arch Box Section

Hi all, saga of my GTA repairs continues, now having turned the corner (thanks to CLee for decent S/H drive shaft) am beavering away putting cleaned up hubs with new bearings etc etc back on the car! By the way is it only me on these dark cold nights under the wheel arch painting black underseal on anything that looks like it might rust.... Every other bigger seems to be in watching Dalziel & Pascoe with their feet up! ......... dedication or madness!

Anyway I've found rust! Not where I expected either.. this is right in the roof of the Wheel Arch (rear) an open box section which takes all the crap from the wheel and of course untreated over time is crumbling to nothing! Question is what is this sections function and how or can it be repaired? I've had a quick check in the manual but can't find owt yet! Thanks for response..........

Mine has the same problem as yours if it makes you feel any better

I was worried for a while and asked my friend (who works for renault) and he said it wasn't a problem I'm planning on rubbing down whats left then undersealing it.

Use some rust converter as well (Personally I prefer 'fertan' (internet purchase) but also use the hammerite 'kurust').
There's little that's more depressing than looking at a rusting bit of metal that you've put loads of work into saving from rust only 6 months ago.
