Engine identification

On the parts microfiche, for some engine parts you need to know the engine serial number (e.g. no. 5973) as well as the engine type (e.g. Z7U-730). Is there a plate on the engine somewhere that will give me that number or is the number somewhere on the plates that are rivetted to the passenger side rear turret?

One for the Gurus that ,but as neither of them has a GTA PRV working it might not

On the A310s the number is usually punched into the cylinder head in front of the rocker cover on the off side (rear most part of that c/h)....
A730 (i think...) means it's an 'alpine' engine.....

if the rivets have not rotted and the plate has dropped off!

The air cond compressor if fitted will make it difficult to see the ID plate. At the back of the RH head on the intake side, the engine No. and type is etched also. No good though if the heads have been changed.

It's a bullocks to see it as well!
You have to have the car up on a ramp and get your head in between the n/s/r wheel and the engine! (Or you could use mirrors)

I think mine is on the RH head just under the "turbo" plenum.
Z7U-730 on 1 line and the 4 digit number underneath.

Cheers guys - rubbed away some dirt and found it on the cylinder head, immediately below the large hose clip on the "turbo" plenum as described. I'd never have found that - its very feint - like a very small frail old oompah loompah has picked out each letter with a tiny centre punch. Sorry - reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to the kids at the moment - I guess it was just a crappy robot getting towards the end of its shift.
