Car alarm

Some little ---- tried to steal :evil: :twisted: the alpine whilst I was away on my Easter break.
Is there an alarm that particularly suits the Alpines dodgy electrics or will most of the Cliffords etc be ok

Any damage to the car?

The Alpines electrics aren't that weird really (just check the battery is strong and healthy) so any alarm should suit. I assume you've got a good immobiliser?

It goes without saying that car thieves are idiots but it's not a particularly high value car anymore and unless you're going to go to all the fuss of breaking and selling spares on e-bay it'd only be of use for a quick joy ride.

It's such a small community and they exist in such low numbers that it'd be hard to shift a stolen example without it being spotted.

Hi darren
I think it was targeted I live in a cul de sac and the car cannot be seen in normal conditions, nobody walks or drives past my house, the neighbours spotted the tow --- and chased him off.
I only have the orig immobiliser so just fitted a disc lock and next week will have an alarm and imob fitted.

Fit a Thatcham approved Immobiliser and an alarm to your garage (movement sensor battery operated one from Brian & Quentins would do - £15) or fit one of those silent varieties , i.e. whereby on activation it sets off an audible signal in your home. Then obtain a nice high powered air rifle complete with a box of sharp pointed tips - the ones with the fluffy bits on the ends. Then if the little %^it comes back dont shoot him in the body but instead aim for his cranium!! :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Yes I'm still bitter about the w$%kers that stole my immaculate set of refurbed alloys...... :evil: :x

all ways look on the bright side of life.
I wasn't home though thats what makes me think it was targeted lights are on timers etc so the house looked occupied etc. £300 + for new alarm + immob.

AH, I suppose this is why my neighbor keeps his TR4 on axle stands all winter. Maybe he is worried some one will steal the car with the wheels on it.

Oh Yeah... Now I understand... I had thought it was to stop the tyres getting flat spots... But It's all clear now... :lol:

Now a Clifford would suit an Alpine as it is unnecessarily complicated and prone to going wrong. :lol: DG will probably disagree! If you intend to keep the car then find someone who really understands it and can fit a Laserline 996V3 cat 1. It has the advantage of being 100% reliable if properly installed and goes into battery save mode if not touched for 72 hours. I have never had a hint of a problem with Laserline having used them for 16 years and will get one on the A610 shortly now its electrics are rock solid (did I tempt fate then? :? ).
Driving an A610 is just so sublime.

My Brother has a Clifford on his Fiat and it's a bit of a pain, giving false alarms and draining the battery etc.. Seems like Cliffords try to be too clever with all their different modes and stuff. So wouldn't recommend.

I've always had Laserline immobilisers and never had a problem with them. It's the original old alarm on mine that drains the battery. :(

Yes, I used to sell Cliffords and Laserlines, and the 996V3 is a very reliable alarm which never had any problems.

Theres nothing wrong with Cliffords, but they got their reputation from dubious fitters 'back in the day', but the Laserline is the best bet.

That will be the microwave sensor, it will be mounted around the centre console area, and has an adjustment trim to allow the 'bubble' to be expanded and contracted, and probably needs turning down. If its a two stage microwave sensor, it will have two trims which adjust the inner bubble and the outer bubble around the car, again adjust to suit, but if they are the same range, you will get double the problems!

If it still doesnt work, have it changed for ultrasonics, and you won't have any problems at all.

The battery drain problem is due to the fact that the microwave bubble is permanently active. Again, if you switch to ultrasonics, they only give an output to the alarm when disturbed, so don't use as much residual current.
