Oi...Dipstick!!!!

I have a rather odd problem with my dipstick (cue Carry On film jokes! :lol: ). The holder tube that goes into the engine snapped with rust last week so I merrily ordered up a new one and fitted it but now the dipstick barely touches the oil where as before it was nearly at the full level. Any ideas??? Did I have too little oil before os is the the new tube too long??

:lol: :? I dunno :arrow: I'll say too little oil ( you're asking sillier questions than me these days )

I think there are two guide tube types listed in the parts book

Excellent...thanks Darren! Can someone please confirm the correct amount of oil? With the correct amount in should that then show full on the dipstick or half way between the 2 marks? I seem to remember when changing oil with the old set up, if I put the amount of oil listed in the local garage's manual it would have shown over full....so perhaps Ive been under filling it for years!!!!

Lee....the Isle of Man was very 8) The 700bhp supercharged Viper was some beast......I beat it of course 8) 8) 8) Just goes to show too much power is not necessarily a good thing! It wouldnt go in a straight line with the power on and crashed into the safety equipment (ahem :lol: ) on the Brae hill sprint.......one of the bales of straw was well wedged into the front wing!!!!

Assuming you still have the old tube, you could use it as a pattern and cut the new one down to the same length. However if the old set up used to under read perhaps not!

Capacity is listed as 7.1 litres presumabably including filter and should read full when full!

The old tube broke in half and the first part got disposed of before I made the changeover and realised the difference. Its due an oil change non anyway, so I will let it all drain for a good long time and fill with 7 litres which should register full (calculating 0.1 will be stuck to engine components)

hi folks followin this post i've bin a bit over-eagar me oil filling and bin confused by the old dipstick...whats the best way of easin some out.....i was tempted to undo the sump nut but me mates swear i'll flood the street with the size of sump me cars got....any help greatly appriciated

If you use a big oil tray, you will be fine.
Make sure it is clean first and you can pour it back into the engine if you let a bit much drain out.

aye....cheers i'm thinkin if i let it all out at least after i'll know whats gone in......i was thinking of getting a big syringe from the hospital i worked at but a big oil tray sounds best

I have now changed oil and the dipstick holder appears to be about 15mm too long!

If dip tube part number was originally 7700 267 246 this part is no longer available so part numbers 7700 266 051+ 7700 266 177 which are a new tube and dipstick.
I hope this helps? If you ask the Renault parts counter to go to the NPDC screen of their computers the information they want is all there under ether Oracle or the library sections.

In the workshop manual, page A-6 it states the engine oil capacity as:
7,1 (+0,5 filter)
So perhaps the grand total is 7.6 if you change the filter too.

I have the same problem with rusted tube.
Paul Sage told me the atmo and turbo tubes were different and that only turbo is available now (which is longer) so you need to get tube and stick together!
