Slave!

Postby peterg » Wed Apr 26, 2006 4:37 pm

I have some sort of hydraulic problem with my clutch. The pedal is near the floor to engage gears and once the thing is warm it can start to creep even with the pedal fully down. Bled the system today and it had a bit of air. There was a temporary improvement then it went back to how it was. I think Ive got a leak!
Chief suspect has got to be the slave cylinder (please feel free to express alternatives!).......how much is a new one and can it be fitted without removing the turbo? I'm sure I read someone had done it and no one has an emptier engine bay then me! :D

Pete, just pull your turbo off, youve done it before.

Two 11mm bolts and the slave is off..

My master cylinder is only a couple of years old (as is my slave actually!) so I cant see it being the master. I suspect the slave, because the heat that it has been subjected to, especially on races. The pedal feels totally normal its just that it doesnt properly engage the clutch.
Anyone know a price for the slave sylinder??

About £65 from motor factors.

Just today I was at europarts.co.uk for a slave cylinder, £61.
They got in in specially for me.
How dissapointing!!! It was not the right unit, it was the "type for the end of the box" the bloke said, not a cylinder type, looked more like a clutch bearing with a big hole in the middle.
Then he said it was the last one the company had.
Oh well, at least I don't have to go back to Slough.
I'll be trying German-Swedish-French car parts tomorrow as well as the Reno-stealer and will let you know Pete.

Have a look in the V of the engine. Brake/clutch fluid is heavy stuff and doesn't evaporate that well so if you've got a leak you'll probably see it pooling there. :(
I'm just here for the gasoline.

ok in 1st and 2nd but in 3rd the clutch slips just as the boost comes on and goes over about 8psi.
By the time I'm in 5th I can only accelerate very gently else it slips.
I'm sort of hoping that it is the slave not retracting properly and the clutch sitting just on the bite-point, rather than the clutch itself which is an engine out job as you know from repetative experience..
Maybe it's the master cylinder behaving the same way, but I thought I'd change the slave first.

I think you are 'clutching' at straws Simon
 Whilst the engines out you can get all those little jobs done 8)

www.GSFcarparts.com site says:

£38.50 >1986 R21/Espace ref R71690.

I wonder if that is the right unit?

No master cylinders mentioned though.

Nope, the GTA one is the same as Renault Master (UN5 gearbox)

The R21 and 25/Espace look the same, but the thread is a smaller size.

EuroCarParts do one (for the Master) which will fit, £60 + VAT.

EDIT : When I say Master, I mean Master Van, so as not to confuse anybody

This thread looked interesting when I saw "slaves" but I was just "clutching" at straws.
Driving an A610 is just so sublime.
