Over here we stainless sleeve the master and slave cylinders of rare cars, and even not so rare ones. Generally costs around 35-40 pounds in your money, sleeved and kitted. It will never get pits in the bore, and you just need to spend a few dollars each on some loose cups when it has to be done up again in 10 years.

Dave, could you advise of the part no from the www.eurocarparts.co.uk web site. It is model/year/engine-size driven and for 1986 I can't find a Master which they stock a slave for.

Part number I have (and fitted) is 137745290

I ordered this part for an atmo - but now I am thinking, maybe the turbo slave has a smaller thread (like the 25 turbo one I mentioned earlier)

To be honest Im not sure, I've just ordered the correct one for the relevant vehicle in the past. It was only when I was doing the slave on the atmo the other day, that I had the new one, and had an old 25 Turbo slave in my hand too, that I noticed the difference in thread size.

EDIT : Yes, Ive just looked up on RenaultParts, and the turbo slave is listed as a Renault 25 part, so the atmo one will definately not fit.

Shame, as the atmo one is only £54 + VAT now.... :oops: :cry:

DOUBLE EDIT : and the reason why is because the atmo has a flexible pipe to the slave and the Turbo has a rigid pipe, obviously down to heat issues being underneath the turbo..

Have you checked the clutch fork Peter? I had similar symptoms (creep in first, hard to select gears) and found the pin in the clutch fork was broke. If you're changing it get an A610 clutch fork fitted as they're stronger.

What is the part number for the A610 fork?

As Ive already mentioned its all fine when the system has been bled and is cold.....no crunch of gears or slip! I will be very annoyed if it is the fork.....thats an engine out job!
David, what symptoms did your car show to make you change the slave?

Has no one got prices or part no.s for the real thing then???
Has anybody removed the slave cylinder without taking off the turbo? After last time...... oil fires, gasket leaks etc etc etc it would be nice to avoid it........although I can probably get the turbo off in about half an hour.....its that whole mobile bbq at the Teesside sprint last year with women and children running from their picnics (yes really :twisted: !!) that I would like to avoid! :D

Peter, sorry been away for a few days. I have changed the slave with turbo in situ some years ago as I did'nt like the look of removing it. Like I said previous you need to remove the stainless heat sheilds ( which you have no doubt already ditched). You are then working blind, left handed, will lose skin and seriously exercise muscles in your back that you did'nt know you had.
I have not needed to change it again yet so don't know if I will try it this way again !!!!!

just got feedback from the stealer.

slave 77 00 770 689 £96+vat
master 60 01 007 297 £111+vat
GTA clutch fork has been superseeded by the p/n for the A610 fork
GTA/A610 fork 77 00 853 287 £32.11+VAT
nothing is stock, all has to come from France and be pre-paid, 7-10 days.

Best to order today, cos next week is next moth and it could be a new price by then.

I'll just order a fork for now.

Forgot to add I got a slave repair piston/seal in Jan from http://www.brakesint.com/ for about £20 as Its 10 yrs since I last did it and must fail soon. They list complete cylinders as well but I was feeling cheap at the time.
Don't know what the mail order is like as I collected in person, excellent online catalogue though.

Rang brakes Int. they said they only do a slave for VIN no.s that start K00001515 and above. The plates in my engine comp dont have any numbers like that at all!!!!!! Shame because theirs are £41+VAT!!!
It definitely is my slave cylinder...with the engine cold this afternoon I had a feel around that area and got brake fluid! D'oh!
Simon....from the sounds of what youve said, I'd be pricing up clutches not hydraulics :cry:

I think so Simon ,engine out in the near future :evil:

:idea: The next DIY clutch surgery to be a RAOC meet and assistance day/s .I'm sure many of us will be in need of a similar operation soon and it will be a great learning experience for all .
DG can of course be head surgeon ,don't worry Dave ,they mostly stand about shaking their head and tutting :lol:

Peter,

They quoted me £60-£70 to line a slave with stainless steel and I would have to supply a new seal as they did not have them. They guessed that the Renault unit would be "DBA" unit, which is the French division of Lockheed.

The K number is on the blue oval plate. On my car it is on the LH rear suspensuion turret. you can just see it above and behind the dip stick finger pull. You know where that is don't you :roll: :roll: :roll:

I have K001817 and my car was first regestered on 1 Aug 86.
