and a litle bit of wind resistance, drag from the rubber, lack of real down force at the rear and of course driver skill levels all play a part too.

Cracking day wasn’t it Simon :D Your 64ft times just goes and proves that you need weight over the driven wheels during acceleration, unlike mine where all the weight is up front then goes to the back when I start :(
Today was not ideal but at least it only rained in the morning, but it still remained damp/ slippery for the rest of the day.
Got another 2nd in class out of six, and was only beaten by Colin in the Escort Cosworth and that is despite both of us going agricultural on the first time runs.
It seemed that the speed traps and timing gear where still playing up as one of the large single seater`s got 20mph :? over the finish line and I didn't get a recorded time for the first practice.
For those who would like to know what was in my class today, there was an RS 500, Escort Cosworth, Audi TT, Subaru STi. Evo VI plus myself.
So with the damp conditions I would have thought the 4WD cars and the RS 500 being RWD would have a reasonable advantage, but just shows that FWD is just as good :D :D

Peter,

I'm in the Practical Performance Car (PPC) championship. click here : http://www.barc.net/ppc.htm

The regs state that I am only allowed upto 1 extra inch in width and must run the original diameter for the "Standard" class, so I am in the "Road-going Production class", class 3 where wheels are free. Also "Standard" says "no other mods", which would might exclude me on a couple of other areas probably.

At Gurston, Red21 gets into a salon class with 4by4s & RS500s and I get a sports class with a Westfield kit car. So unfair.... and an Audi TT gets the salon class too! For me it does not matter as the PPC champ co-ordinator will re-class me for the PPC champ. Next event I will choose classes more scientifically.

Nice photo too, the car does seem to just go round corners or rails with the larger lower-profile Toyo tyres etc.

Gosh your regs sound really harsh! From my deductions so far it appears that the further North you go, the more lax they get!! In Scotland they let you run list 1b tyres and a lot less interior in the road car classes, by the time I get to Yorkshire they are more picky and by the time the South coast is getting near.....well you know that bit!!! :D The only annomoly is the Isle Of Man where the scrutineering consisted of looking at the car and saying....yeah that looks fine!! (Really!!!!). They dont have MOTs over there and when one bloke pointed out he was running list 1a tyres the scrutineer replied....they are black and round they'll do for us!!! There were people from all over the country (Devon to Aberdeen) a real metling pot. You should come next year.....THE best events Ive ever done.

If that was over here I wonder how much money would have been made for the local partnership  even on a closed road?

Avery narrow track and very exciting, cattle grid half way up at 90mph....
Eventually worked my way up the hill reasonably well, but still got wooped by a gaggle of bike engined Westfields(and a Minster Vauxhall one). All about 3-4 seconds quicker than me. Just beaten by a bike engined Sylva by a tenth or two.

Good day out though! :)

So long as I get my car back together, which I'm banking on, Ive paid my entry fee for another sprint.

Sat 10th June, Abingdon CAR-nival at the Dalton Barracks.
A good line up so far: I am classed with: M3 CSL, Scimeta GTE, 944 t, 2 x RX7s, GT3, 2 x Cooper S, Z3M coupe, 350Z, Sierra Cosworth, 2 x Leon Cupa R, Evo 6, 2x Quatro t, 2x 968 CS and a 4.2 litre G33. And Pete Ellens will be there in his A110.
Funny how most cars are reconnisable by there model numbers !!

Current entry list at http://www.scmc.co.uk/Abingdon_06/Abingdon%20Home.htm

Got it out and will be examining the clutch this weekend.

Good luck Simon. Interesting assortment of cars to pitch the Alpine against. :D

Hope you manage to sort it out in time and have it back together without (too many) hitches.

Looking at that pic of yours, the way you've managed to remove that engine almost looks like a work of semi-genius!
GTA V6 Turbo - BTW check your earths!
