Pedal feel and takeup depends on the plate, rigid plate, sprung plate, and the cover rating..

The clutch that I can supply for the GTA is a sprung AP 4 paddle setup, slightly larger than the original at 242mm, and an uprated cover - the whole combination is rated for upto 500lb/ft, and no real increase in pedal pressure or shuddering on take up.

Needs the flywheel redrilling and redowling, but there is no reason why I can't supply it exchange already done and lightened if required.

As the std is no longer available :? :?: If fitted to a std road car ,theoretically it should last forever :wink:

Le Grande tuning Framage said they were getting scarce but I spose there will still be a few knocking about .That aside, surely it's worth putting an uprated job in as it would seem your probs are not all linkage related if a new one is going in so soon .It must get some serious hammer on a hillclimb :twisted:

Problem appears to be to do with loose friction plate. A new clutch is going in to be safe...the friction plate has bad discolouration from heat. Hillclimbing is hard on the clutch, but Ive only got 240bhp (ish) so I wont be wrooying too much......4 or starts in a day isnt too much to ask. I will get uprated next time round (2008??!!! :D )

peter, which clutch lasted the most events? Your original (Valeo unit I guess ?), or the distorted one you have just taken out (EBC unit ???) ?
I replaced mine with a SACHS unit, it was all marked up as a Valeo unit, so far so good, but only 1 event so far.

Not nessecarily...

When you install a new clutch, the torque capacity and clamp load increase gradually until the clutch reaches half-life. Then the
torque capacity and clamping power start to decline and as the clutch wears out, and you eventually change it. Most performance clutches are designed to have material properties very near the half-life from new, they have maximum clamping force from the off. The problem is, it wont last as long...

The std is available....it was a Valeo one that I put in last time and a Valeo one I'm getting tomorrow! Warping was only a suggestion.....I am replacing whats there as a precaution because of the discolouration on the friction plate...the problem apears to have stemmed from the friction plate not being tightened anough/coming loose. I wont know forn sure until its all back together! One things for sure I need to get a 1st place in the Wigton championship this weekend if I'm going to win it at the end of the year!!

Well, its Barbon tomorrow. The weather forecast looks good and the car feels as good as its ever done. Good entry too, Esprit, couple of 911s, a Golf VR6 and a new Focus ST......bring it on!!!!! :D

Not in my class or championship, but I know hes fast Ive met him a couple of times before, its a very well sorted car.

Had lots of fun! Car worked beautifully, won the class (by 2 seconds on a 30 second hill and the oppostition included a Noble M12!!!) and beat the 5GTT to boot! He set a new class record in his class which was something, but I pulled out another 2/10ths on the last run of the day. 8)

Well done Peter,
I didn't have as much luck as you over the weekend only two 3rd places out of six on both days but I did get a new PB time for Gurston Down on Sunday. The only thing is that my new target time (best sector times added together) for the year is now that much lower and as you know it's the fraction of seconds that are hard to find.

You cant win em all! I would say Barbon was the best performance Ive ever done, everything just worked. I had something to prove after missing Kames and coming 3rd in the Wigton class at Elvington (and right off the pace thanks to my clutch) and Ive well and truly thrown down the gauntlet!!! :D Cant wait for Forrestburn....and all the walls and rockfaces :twisted:
