I was a bit harsh....very drunk too  It could have been a great car if only they'd made it rear wheel drive. It would have been like an early Cossie!

If you lower the compression a tad, or run low boost...

Hi Clee

It's almost certainly be the same engine as the Espace then..... What's it good for? Errrrrm..... not a lot really. It'll do for a spare block for me or any of the turbo GTAs :-D

The interesting even fire 2.8 is the Volvo B280E because it has the highest lift cams of any production PRV. I bought an engine for £100 and sold the cams out of it to a nutter in the US for $500. I just asked him to make me an offer :-)

ALL the even-fires have the same crank except the Z7U (GTA and 25 Turbo)*
ALL odd-fires have the same crank
ALL the engines have 91mm bores except the 3 litre and 2.7
ALL the main journals are the same meaning ALL cranks fit ALL blocks
ALL conrods are the same length
ALL engines have a 73mm stroke except the Z7U*

* (Yes I know about the 72.7mm and 73mm versions of the even fire crank - I'll admit the difference if anyone can give me a reason why, or explain to me the effect of adding 0.15mm to the piston travel - seems to me that it makes bigger all difference..,)

The pain in the asp comes when trying to interchange odd and even fire components because crankpin and gudgeon pin diameters are different.

If you want to build a turbo engine, start with a 3 litre laguna or 25 Turbo.GTA Turbo engine....

Or (something I haven't ever looked into ) get a GTA Turbo engine and drop in a 73mm crank, and have conrods made that are 5mm shorter. Bingo instant 2849cc turbo engine a la late 25 turbo / Venturi 280 (& 260?) except they used forged pistons (I believe)

Been busy recycling that B280E block into a DeLorean engine today. Did you know all the late 91mm blocks have cross bolted centre journals and a deeper oil pump?

Seeya!

I silly French tehnicality that came about in 1994 regarding capacity law..

It would be better to prepare the 2.8 Espace/R25 lump for turbocharging than put the crank in the 2.5

The espace/25 has bigger exhaust and inlet valves, better profile camshafts as standard, better design of inlet manifold. Just fit a set of low deck forged pistons, which are easier and cheaper to source than custom rods, and the rod/stroke ratio is very good currently, so it would be a shame to alter it.

Anyway, the mechanics is the easy part, its the cost of the management, injectors and other sundries that make up the main cost.. :)

Probably why he is called Gentleman then, rather than something more abrupt
