Put my new Hankook's on the rears a week ago, selected for their allround capabilities. Big diffrences the ride is much more compliant no major jolts and bumps as before. There is always a "but" the back end has become very light and tends to wander at anything over 80, high wind over the Medway bridge this morning caused serious grief. I think I might need to lower the suspension, or do you think I have inadvertantly ended up with hard compound on the fromt and softs on the rear a sort of Rossi set up. :lol: Any thoughts

Yep tyre pressure's got to be the first port of call.

Don't set it too high ie the high speed pressure - you'll never be doing 150 round the M25.

Oh and invest in a decent digital tyre pressure gauge. It'll pay for itself as getting the tyre pressures correct makes a lot of difference to how fast they wear.

Of all places, "Hell-fords" do a nice one, about £15 but make sure you get the one that reads Bar & PSI.

Yep that's where I got mine.

Mine's PSI only though so I have a sticker on the back where I've written down the preferred pressures for front and rear.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Yes I was talking about rush hour where you'd be lucky to see 15 mph.

I honestly don't know anyone who re-sets the pressure though for high speed driving.......... or do you Simon? :lol:

In all seriousness those pressures are far too high for normal use though.

For 225 section rears the manual states 2.5 bar (36psi) for normal speeds and a whopping 3.6 bar (52psi) for high speeds / loads. If the tyre fitters used these values you'd have tyres like rocks.

I'd try about 32-34 psi on 225s as see how it feels.

Worn in the centre of the tyre means the pressure is too high.

I think I recall some one saying even at correct pressure, relatively wide tyres will wear in the middle anyway due to the middle bulging out under acceleration. :?:

You are such an Irish misery :lol: !!!!! Have a go mechanics is how plenty of people learn to become competent....as for tyre pressures a lot of that is down to preference. I run mine at 25 front and 30 rear for road use and down as far as 16 and 18 for events and have had no trouble.....my times have generally improved the lower Ive run them and theyve not come off the rim....get something more important to worry about....tyre pressures depend on conditons! At Barbon my tyres went up over 2PSI when used. You presumably have yours set at the same rate all the time??? :roll:
