just making comment that if people cannot get the basic fundametals correct, then what are the chances of getting anything remotely technical correct!?

its like saying that a joinery requires next to no experience, anybody can lift a saw and have-a-go-at-joinery!

of course i could cut wood, but it would fit and look like damn all....

just saying that every person to their trade.

and the A and E department sees more DIY accidents than any other type.

I have just completed a large extension on my house. I have removed my old gas boiler fitted a new oil combi boiler in my garage as well as 8 radiators and oil tank, 1 ensuite 2 toilets. Fitted spindles on my new staircase fitted 3 velux window. Fitted a new ring main and lighting circuit, fitted all the *6 fire doors which weigh a ton, granted the first was a botch but you improve. Done the plaster boarding and the insulation Celotex (where a mask) Plastered several rooms, felted battened and tiled the roof p.s I will agree ridge tiles are a nightmare. Fitted the soffits and gutters. Nothing in life is difficult all you have to do is read the manual or get advice.
All I was trying to say with regard to car maintenance is that most people who own an alpine do not also own a new Bentley; therefore on the job maintenance is essential. Otherwise many of these vehicles will end up on the scrap yard.

I'm with you Miles.....the only way to learn is practice and try things out. Ive built a couple of kitcars and done up 2 houses and made money....but it was much harder to start with than it is now!!!! Ive re-built most of my GTA and as my results have proved it works rather well....but I dont get it right all of the time....but when it doesnt go well I learn and improve (clutch change!). Certainly couldnt afford to pay a professional to do everything I have...I pick the jobs that I really cant do (ECU) and pay, but do the others and feel the pain of owning an Alpine!!!!

either way when was the last time you visited a 'quick fit' full of time served car mechanics?
