High Mileage?

Postby EATMYPLASTICARSE » Tue Jul 25, 2006 11:57 pm

Hi guys, what is the kind of mileage your cars have on them?, my atmo has done 122,000 miles and still pulls like a train ( no not Stephensons Rocket ) i was told by the last owner that the engine had been rebuilt at around 100,000 miles but no paper work to back this up :( though this must be true ( i will say a prayer tonight ). because the engine just goes so well.
never really ever thought that i would own a gta, but am i happy that i do!!.

When in the Empire Strikes Back the Millennium Falcon is under siege and won't start there's a classic line:

Leia: Would it help if I got out and pushed?
Han: It might!
8) 8) 8)

The Millenium Falcon definitely shares a bit of DNA from a GTA I'm sure.

On a serious note though there's a bit of competition over what petrol engine holds the mileage record. Martin (StunnedMonkey) can tell you the details but one of the alleged record holders is.... a PRV in a volvo.

The same unit from a Delorean and not far removed from a GTA.

Head gaskets only I believe. Martin looked up the details, I'll let him explain.

No I was accounting for that - recorded mileage is about 185 but I added a little extra for the odd few months every other year when the needle gets lazy and goes AWOL.

Wow! some high mileages out there but at least this means the engines can take it and it shows that even though Alpines seem to be fragile mini supercars they at least get well used ,not like much more expensive machines so perhaps that statement doesnt really hold up because would a 100,000+ miles Ferrari 328 GTB be any more reliable :?: , but for sure it would cost buckets more to stay on the road.

So maybe these GTA"s are much better then we give them credit and pound for pound these must be THE performance car bargains out there.

There's a Norwegian A310 with in excess of 500,000 km on the clock, still on its original engine and gearbox.

It's why Delorean used A310s as the mules for the DMC12, same engine, gearbox and drive config. And with a GRP body the same no rust properties as stainless steel. It's a shame Alpine didn't put the same effort into rust-proofing the actual chassis though
