Radiator flow

Which way does the engine water flow through the radiator, I'm looking to know which end should be the coolest?
1986 : '86 GTA v6 BW-EFR turbo, with Adaptronic ECU

Not sure , would imagine the temp switch will be on the exit side .

If you believe the offiical workshop diagram, facing the car's nose it should be right to left - Lee's logic is correct :o
I'm just here for the gasoline.

You guys are on the same wave length as me.
So, is the w/s manual is wrong, or is it just an ilogical Alpine set-up?
Hmmmmmm ?
I am wishing to route my coolest CC water pipe next to the coolest of the 2 rad pipes, but which is coolest?

as a guess, the hot water goes in the top and cool comes out the bottom (assuming the laws of physics aren't broken again on an alpine :lol: ).

You will not be surprised by this?

I did run the car with the radiator off, and the ends of the pipes blocked with rags and the resivoir full and pump bled, So as not to cook the block.

Even when the engine warms up , just over 90 on the gauge, the flow was minimal when the rags were removed. I guess that was due to the pump only running at idle, but some hot water did exit from what is the thermostat end of the rad, and the water still on the other side was cool. So I guess the manual is correct but it difies logic.

And the inlet/outlet are middle-ish, 1 is 1 inch higher than the other.

The water that comes from the thermostat on top of the waterpump is the hot water flowing out of the engine. So it would be easy to trace which rubber hose goes onto which pipe underneath.

The cooling fan switch can be on the cooler or hotter side of the radiator depending on manufacturer.

Unable to positivley trace the tubes as they dissappear into the central tunnel.

However, now that the rad is back on, system filled and bled, and by holding each end of the rad, I can confirm that the hot water goes into the rad at the thermostat/bleed-valve end.

Coolant should always exit the engine through the thermostat. Witness an example where it doesn't: The Rover K-Series. Famed for head gasket failures and was eventually traced to thermal shock issues related to the stat opening and closing all the time because it was on the inlet. Landrover issued a recall on the freelander and a remote stat housing was placed on the engine outlet. Rover denied there was ever a problem until the day they died.

Even the "cold" water pipe will get considerably hotter than the CC pipe, so do your best to keep them seperate
