Fuel Pump - Need a new one

I've used the search facility, found a reply from David, to a previous thread, but all he said was buy the standard replacement.

But what is this standard replacement ? How much is it as well.

It might be good to mention which fuel pump you refer to?
On the turbo car, there is a pump by the petrol tank and another by the rear wheel for the small holding tank.

Rear pump is similar to a 21 Turbo pump (swapped mine for one of those) and I think is a Bosch type costing around £180 new.

The front pump is a Piersburg (I think) and is a feeder pump, similar pump used on a 5 GT Turbo, and costs £120 from Renault.

I would definately buy new as I tried to cut corners buying a couple of 2nd hand pumps which both failed and for an extra few quid I should have bought new.

I can supply an uprated Walbro motorsport pump now for £125, this is what Peter is running on his GTA. Direct fitment, and double the maximum flow rate of the standard pump when running high fuel pressure/high boost.

Also, I can now supply the rear fuel filters at £25.00

Steve showed me a stock turbo pump and our suppliers cross-referenced it immediately to a much cheaper than stock pump at about £70 plus vat (from memory). Give me me bosch number (stamped on the side) and we can sort you out.

Stick with an original or better brand. Don't go for a pattern pump as there is no guarantee in matches the flow rate of the original - not as important on a normally aspirated vehicle but very important on a turbo car..

For instance, Intermotor do fuel pumps, and for all the cars available. They list 8 pumps that will cover every, and I mean every car... :roll: So, I checked the flow rate charts and they werent close at all. The maximum pressure numbers were, but as with every pump, they respond differently under increased fuel pressure (which happens in a turbo application), and the flow rate dropped right down below the original Bosch pump when above 3 bar of fuel pressure..

Don't try and do this on the cheap. As I said its the most important source to the engines whole power, and the fuel supply is already on the lean side as standard.

I never buy any intermotor parts now, the standard of there stuff is so low.

Indeed, you notice that pattern part suppliers on things like pumps concentrate on size and fitment and connector type first, than actually matching the flow rates to the original spec. :oops:

Just because two different pumps say they do 5 bar, doesnt mean they flow the same...

Spoke to my local motor factors this morning. They don't deal in Bosch parts but could supply a Quinton Hazell fuel pump listed for the R25 and GTA turbo, part no. QFP600. He said the flow rate was 4 bar. Do you know if this will be okay? I know the GTA fuel system runs at 3 bar as far as I know.

lol, no, Pressure is not flow.....flow is flow. The standard pump is a 5 bar Bosch pump. :)
