Bumper bolts

Anyone got a couple of those 40mm long bolts with the 24mm x 28mm rectangular plate like heads. These are the ones that fit into the square cubes that hold the bumper to the ends of the chassis rails. Dealer in Bovingdon (Hemel) was not able to help or even find them on fiche this afternoon.

I have now found them in the parts manual, page 41.101 item 6.

Anyone got any advice on replacing the torx screws that hold the undertray on, with stainless steel bolts with penny washers?

Tie wraps work well .They do Simon :lol: I'm not takin the "wee wee" :shock: You're going to have that bumper off again you know.
If you need some bumper bolts I can get some made , just let me know the sizes .

OK OK I was just wishing to do it properly.
Tie wraps it is then, as well as saving time, probably less weight too.
I suppose I can put a hole through the plastic block and "tie" that on too.

drill out and replace the old riv-nuts, fit new stainless bolts and washers, copper grease the threads, screw them in and job done!

cable ties :roll:

Cable tie it :lol: 'Tis modern technology on the mainland ,well suited to the task ,probably fail it's MOT though ............................................

Tried that, the old torx screws seem to be rock hard to drill into and I need to get some taps too (that will probably be problematic!!!), so cable ties it will be, but over the winter I will do it properly.

I got hold of some M6 Nut-Serts which are pop-rivet style threaded inserts. I had to take the angle-grinder to the old inserts - just ground the shoulder off them and punched the remaining bits into the chassis rails.

The nut-serts are then put in the hole and you crimp them in place with a tool not unlike a pop rivet gun - in fact I used a pop rivet gun, adapted with a bit of M6 rod and some washers and bolts. Just took the rivet gripping bit out of the gun and passed the threaded rod through the gun and into the insert and then put a washed and bolt on the end and adjuisted it until I could squeeze the gun and crimp the netsert. Works a treat - used stainless bolts and keep them copperslipped as previously mentioned.

After the first week of owning a GTA I decided a nutsert kit was a necessity. 3 out of 4 bolts either spin or snap off under the car it seems. The kit I bought is made by a good English company Eclipse, and comes with an insert tool and about 10 of each type of 4,5,6,and 8mm inserts.

Of course I bought about twenty of each insert extra. The kit cost $160 AUD, about 65 Pounds, and has been well worth it.
