Pull the plug off the sensor, and you should be able to bridge the plug and make the needle move, just to check it isnt the dash gauge, then if not, just replace the sensor..

Hi.
I hope I'm not insulting you and I may be being stupid here, but aren't they supposed to turn off when the engine starts? Does it work at any time? Mine only works with the ignition on and the engine off.
Bad news through- I changed the sensor on mine last year- on a A610 its fan belt off, A/c compressor loosened, work in cramped conditions job- and you'll need a very small, thin open ended spanner as it is so close to the block that the access is very limited and ring spanners and sockets cannot fit.
Lastly don't make my mistake- the bolts holding the A/C compressor are slightly different lengths, get it wrong and it will rub through the insulation on the oil pressure switch and give you an intermittant oil pressure warning (in my case after 10 miles of driving when the bolt heated up). Took ages to find that.
Have fun!

Postby Andythecroc » Tue Oct 10, 2006 12:37 pm

yes it does only work with the initial turn of the ignition but mine does not work at all. i have however managed to get it off the block without removing any parts whatsoever.

i will try the brige tip later thankyou.

Lee I had the exact same job as you to get to my sensor :? It would certainly be easier if there was no A/C compressor but i thought all 610's had A/C :?
