Never did like the Megane. In fact I absolutely hate the back end of them! But this makes it look a bit better!!!!!!

Mégane Trophy racers

(from Renault Press Release) Renault has released official pictures of its awesome Mégane Renaultsport Trophy racer following the car’s recent debut at the Paris Motor Show. Although motorists will not see the show-stealing 320hp Mégane Trophy on the road, the car will be racing throughout Europe – including visiting the UK – next year.

With styling based on the powerful Mégane Renaultsport 225, the Mégane Trophy race car will compete in its own one-make championship covering eight European race meetings beginning next Spring. Approximately 30 Mégane Trophy racers will take part in the series on tracks in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and Belgium.

The UK race will be on Sunday 11th September 2005 at Donington Park in Leicestershire.

The full Mégane Trophy calendar will be unveiled this month following publication of the F1, MotoGP and WRC schedules.

Renaultsport’s latest offering has taken the already powerful and impressive Mégane Renaultsport 225 and evolved it into the Trophy race car with a tubular chassis, mid-mounted V6 powerplant and semi-automatic gearbox. Its bodywork has been lowered by a full 10 centimetres, with widened wheel arches and added rear diffuser, all combining to give the 155mph-plus Mégane Trophy awe-inspiring looks and ensure it is a top level-racing machine.

The 3.5-litre V6 engine fitted to Renault’s Espace and Vel Satis powers the Mégane Trophy but in this case, the unit develops more than 320hp and features semi dry sump lubrication.

The Mégane Trophy’s electronic control system is by Magneti-Marelli and covers all engine, gearbox and automatic clutch management functions plus the data acquisition that is so essential for drivers and engineers to unleash every fraction of the car’s performance. Enhanced driveability comes from specially-designed Michelin tyres, with stopping power courtesy of ventilated discs with six-pot callipers’ front and four-pot at the rear.

In dynamic terms, the Mégane Trophy is comparable to some GT racers thanks to its strong power-to-weight ratio and wind tunnel-developed aerodynamics.

The Mégane Trophy will be given an initial shakedown at the end of this month with first development tests getting underway in November.

I really like the Megane back, But most importantly It looks different from all the others. In that 'class' of car I really can't tell which is which without looking at the badges (well for the majority of them anyway).

It does stand out from the crowd which is good...renault have always tried to be a bit different and its good to see they arent conforming. It all depends on whether you like that ass!!! Its the Jo-lo of family hatches :lol: The racer looks good, but 320bhp is hardly startling from a 3.5 engine.......less than 100bhp per litre. Reckon my GTA will kick its fat ass next year!! :D (once Ive got Davids ECU and bigger injectors)

Let's hope for a similar power output (320-350bhp) from the road version :twisted: , rather than the distilled version like the Clio :(

The road one already exists with 225bhp.....according to that website, there will only be that racing version. Lets face it the wide body probably serves little purpose other than to allow a wider track as the car is front wheel drive. At least the Clio was brave and went RWD.....the 255bhp version is meant to be a major improvement on the original. Give me a Turbo2 Maxi anyday!!!!!!!!

The Clio Trophy was a mid engined development of the Clio 172 and led to the V6 Road Clio.

It follows that the Megane Trophy is a mid engine development of the Megane 225 and therefore may lead to a V6 Road Megane :D

I got a good look round it at the weekend. It's particularly clean, but the turbo pipe blew off on me and it dumped water all over the place. :cry: I'll probably still buy it but it needs a bit of work to get it right. Simonsays74 came round and had a look at it and advised me that it's still a good car at the right price. With any luck I'll have it on the road in a few weeks or so, depending on when Simonsays74 can start the work. I'll hopefully have pics soon.
In response to Alpineandy, I can categorically say that if you want a stunning mid-size hatch, the only one to go for is the new Citroen C4 coupe (and it's French too!!!!)
