CAUGHT DOING 101MPH on M1>>>>>>>>>

I regularly 'Speed' and accept that if caught I would be breaking the law of the land.What I have issue with is the lack of discretion and REVENUE generating policies it instils/requires of the police .
I live 500m from my local primary school and take my eldest there on foot every morning avoiding the, speeding,kerb parking ars****s in the process.Speed bumps ,20 mph zone etc and have yet to see any form of enforcement .It seems that the issue of road safety has become synonymous with high speed and the lack of driving skill/risk assessment is no longer relevant.
Coming back from the Ace meet ,midnight,M1, no traffic, well lit,high performance/designed car +120 .If stopped ,banned,points ,loss of livelihood .
8.45 am ,residential area ,primary school ,speed bumps ,20 mph limit , not a snowballs chance in hell of any enforcement :evil:

Government targets on us (the police) to target whatever the political hot potato of the day is and the emergence of speed cameras now means there are fewer traffic police than at any time in the last 20 years. I know some of them are real buggers and would do their own grannies for exceeding the limit by 1mph but most are ok.....unlike speed cameras that know no discretion, nor for that matter do the camera vans as its all being recorded and down loaded to the offices sending out NIPs and fixed penalties.
If the government decided that people without licences or insurance (more than 1 in 10 now!!!!) were more of a threat than speeders then we would all be a lot better off and quite frankly crime would probably also drop as a fair proportion of the no insurance/disqualified driving brigade are also criminals.

I know its stating the right-wing obvious but.............. law abiding citizens
are the most profitable , so why waste resources hounding criminals .

I hate bad driving and spend so much of my driving time avoiding being in someone else's accident but that gets no credit. We all know its not fair and that bad drivers are not the ones who get targetted just easy meat like all us car enthusiasts in our well maintained and well loved vehicles. I fight every attempt to put points on my licence all the way and have not had any for over 20 years. Read all the web sites and take all the advice going and use due process to defeat them. There was a barrister on Trevor McDonald Tonight a couple of weeks ago who defends people against speeding and has never lost a case. He isn't cheap but what price freedom. Good luck. :evil:

Not so. If they gave a verbal one on the side of the road, the postal one doesn't need to be within 14 days, in fact you don't need to expect one at all. Pepipoo is the best site of all

WELL SAID. I too regularly "speed" but only when I perceive it is safe to do so. I live close to a school which has a 40 limit going past it. I stick to that like glue during the day but at one in the morning, I will probably hoik it up a bit.

My main grumble are the old farts who pootle along at 40mph on a wide open dead strait road because they think they're being "safe". I do so enjoy seeing them off in my rearview mirror in the skyline! And the mad thing is sometimes they have the nerve to flash/beep me as I sail past (when it's perfectly safe to overtake). As if overtaking by it's very nature is dangerous/illegal.

I remember a statistic that has stuck in my brain. 75% of drivers when questioned said they thought themselves to be "above average" drivers. Says a lot, that.

It is policy to send a written one even if one has been verbally issued at the road side due to various stated cases where people have claimed not to recall hearing it due to shock etc etc. Obviously now and then things will proceed with just a verbal one, but its rare in this day and age.

I was speeding for around 15 seconds while overtaking a Merc, who then chased me for a bit, but they only pulled me over, and the Merc got away!! They recorded my speed using designated markings on the road.
Has anyone got any advice . I know im stupid to be speeding there of all places.
I had 3 points over 4 years ago, which i think will have cleared now.----Am i looking at a ban???

What was the end result???
Phildini, if what he is saying is right, they were using a system called Vascar, which is basically a stopwatch that they use to time you calculating distance from marks on the road (those white squares you see painted in the middle) that are either 1/4 or 1/2 a mile apart. There is no way for any system to detect it I'm afraid.

Get yourself a yellow Smart car like Mr dell and you will never get caught going over the speed limit again!!! the engine will blow up before then :wink:

You'd be surprised, he got the electronic gearbox to get confused and lose all gears, by flying over a LBC speedbump at 50mph.... :roll:
