Hi there....just noticed your point about the timing needs to be sorted out. If you used the crank from a late 25, say 1988> then it is a possiblilty that it is an even fire crank (120* intervals) where as the old crank is 150* interval so it will never time up correctly.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this could be a problem. It can be sorted with a different setup distributor with equal firing points.
The only other thing it could be is you have the correct firing crank (if your lucky!) and who ever has timed it up for you has used the 120* markings to time it, in which it just needs resetting
