component compatability

Postby chris » Sun Nov 26, 2006 1:42 am

Do we have a list ? or could we have one ? that people can post or add to of parts that are compatable with other Renault's or other makes.
It would make it a lot easier and cheeper to replace parts and keep these cars on the road. If each time we found an item that was the same we could add it to the list What does every body think ? . At the moment I need to find out if any of the GTA front suspension is compatable with any other older Renault's ie wishbones , tie rods , balljoints and rubbers .

Cheers Chris W

Top idea.

I'm sure there are examples splattered thoughout the forum - rear calipers is definitely one that I can think of.

Hey - remember I'm an official learner here and I'm now over 40 which qualifies me for automatic senility. During the war, when eggs and GTA parts were scarce, we had to be resourceful and modify Citroen BX front calipers (apparenty):

hence my confusion! - I'll get my coat!

..........hang on, just before you get your coat......

yes you can modify citroen bx front calipers to work, but then you can also modify any caliper with a hand brake function to work!

My memory of that post was slightly different to reality - never mind. So what are the genuine shared bits that dont need drilled, welded or otherwise completely changed in order to fit a GTA? The little side repeaters look like a generic Reanult bit from 5s, 25s etc..

This refers to the rear pads being used on :

LANCIA DELTA INTEGRALE 2.0ltr. 16v TURBO 8v & 16v 1988-95

RENAULT ALPINE V6 A610 3.0ltr. 5/1992 - 1994

RENAULT GTA V6 2.5ltr. & 2.8ltr. & TURBO 1986 - 1990

RENAULT 5 GORDINI TURBO 4/1982 - 10/1984

......but i think that the cast piece of the caliper is the same ..bx, gta, whatever, but the genuine reanult rear pads for the later 22mm disc'd gta might just be a slightly thinner pad? :?

fuel hoses are the same as R25 V6 turbo!

I've bought stuff off that guy (classicremains) on ebay before.

e.g. Fuel filters listed as Renault GTA that bore no resemblence when they arrived

It never says what they are for on the box, he just does some cross referencing (often completely wrong) and slaps a handwritten sticker on the box!

Well the business end of the window switches is the same as the DeLoreans, and they've been reproduced by www.delorean.com - all you need to do is swap the caps over. Or go to a scrapyard and find any older Renault.

Gearbox stuff crosses over and a lot of engine bits obviously howver I rarely have to buy from the US for that stuff.

Front and rear main seal are substantially cheaper from Volvo (around £10 the pair). Exhaust manifold gaskets and studs, water hoses for water pump, rocker cover and timing cover gaskets all cheap from Volvo specialists.
