See former post ''Head gasket?bigger, bigger, bigger!'
Stripped the engine, Head had been skimmed (perfectly), liner protusion was good, my torquing of the head had been exact, so what was it?
The new head gaskets!!!
Measuring them showed that they would never close completly relative to the head and the crank case, when considering the closure of the wet liners and the head, and hence water leakage.
Ordered a new set of gaskets and found them to be different, these have a thin silicon type 'strip' that stands proud of the main gasket face located where water wants to be excluded, re-examined old and found a 'primer' where this 'silicon' should be. Looks to me as if the first set had missed a manufacturing process.
Engine back together, cold pressured tested the water system to 3 bar and no problems, great
Anyone else come across this problem before?
