To Ceramic coat manifolds or not, or use wrap

Postby steveatyork » Thu Dec 07, 2006 10:35 am

Any ideas what will be best for the Turbo 2's TDC manifold :?: Ceramic coating or wrap

Just had a look on the camcoat site and noticed there coatings are black apart from the colour  is there any diference to the white coating thats seen on some manifolds?

I was just having a look at the standard manifold on the T2 yesterday and  noticed that the thermotec heat wrap felt like a crisp  there must have been some heat generated on its last visit to the rollers  unless it was gt5 when he borrowed it   i would have thought the wrap whould have been fine though :?: a good make as well, Thermotec :?:

A reply i received from a heat wrap company today.

The standard wrap is rated to 1500f but
this higher spec wrap is rated to 2000f
With regard to the ceramic coating, the only type worth using is a
Plasma applied Zirconia. This is what Prodrive and M-Sport use on their
manifolds and systems. The best company to use would be Zircotec and
talk to Andy McCabe Tel: 08701908480 Mobile: 07968 707190 they are
located at Harwell near Didcot, Oxfordshire. The other types of ceramic
coating such as C-----t are just a gimmick.

This coating is expensive but very hard wearing. I have supplied
Prodrive and M-Sport with exhaust manifolds and systems in the past and
used this coating on them. This can be lagged after with the wrap to add
2 layers of protection.

Thats just what i was thinking could happen Lee, Get the TDC manifold coated and then it looking a right mess with a bit of hard use :( suppose the wrap would stop the bits of ceramic coating falling onto the road

I would expect that stuff to be better than VHT paint when applied correctly but I doubt it's a patch on the real stuff, but the cost may make it the viable option for you.... :?

I recently asked about this stuff here...
You'll be needing something that can go up to around 1000dec C...

Hence the use of inconel for headers!
