Biturbo Project

Postby David Gentleman » Thu Dec 07, 2006 12:17 am

I thought Id put up some pictures of my Biturbo conversion on the 2.5 lump.

Did some readjustments on the turbo manifolds tonight to bring the T28s up higher and offer better oil return drainage back to the sump. Also will let me have a little more length on the 'excuse' for an exhaust each blower will have

Decided Im going to have to run two chargecooler units on this setup, just for ease of fitment rather than the logistics of plumbing both turbos into one large single.

The car is now fitted with twin 5 bar fuel pumps, and I have 6 x RC Engineering 650cc injectors coupled with the Adaptronic ECU to control it all.

Once its up to full potential, I will then fit the cams I have, and maybe stroker increase, though I'd prefer to work with the original capacity..

Yes, it will fit!

If not, do you rememeber that GTA towbar I've got?.......Ill use that to hold up the turbos...

Thats just the engine build clean room. F7R 16v engine on the left prepped for turbo for a customer(low comp build, full head work, T28, Adaptronic) and a 3S-GTE Turbo engine on the right (one with the custom sump) destined for big things.. 8)

Very droll...

Decided to flip the turbos round today, so the compressor housings are on the outside and the turbine housings are at the middle. The exhausts are going to be very short (about 15")and very loud and, but the car is only being done for fun. I hav a couple of clever devices which are a 3" billet solenoid valve than can be inserted after the turbo. The switch allows them to be set from almost closed to fully open, so can quieten the noise right down instead of using silencers, and still make no restriction when open for full power. I suppose I could also trigger them to open automatically through the Adaptronic, by configuring them to open via a set amount of throttle opening, by taking a reading from the TPS sensor.. 8)

Question: When "almost closed" - how do they sound? I'd guess the exhaust would sound like one big exhaust leak.... ?

How much are they, Dave ? I've got project on the go they might be good for too

£300 for the pair.

The Leagey 610 exhausts aren't that short really, they loop around a couple of times at the back.

No different to sticking your foot over your exhaust pipe.

ferrari already use a similar thing on a maranello at low revs it closes out half of the exhaust and at higher revs they automatically open so all pipes are in use.
