Just smoked my Renix unit investigating why it would not hold idle. Turned out the wires going to the idle speed control valve were bare under the rubber cover and when I wiggled them, I shorted the beggars out without realising. It held idle (just) for a minute or so before shooting up to 2000+rpm. It was only when I went to shut to engine off that I noticed that the cabin was full of that horrible smoke that only burning electronics produces.

Fixed the wires and started her up - runs OK - but still idles at 2000 rpm - doh!!!!!

Anyhow - got the box off and dismantled it and found the culprit - strangely enough a little IC that drives the ISCV outputs was melted. Cleaned off the soot and the rest looks OK. I have the bit out but its too badly damaged to get a part number off. Any of you hoarders got an old/spare unit handy and could tell me the part number? Its one of the ICs that is attached to the large heatsink in the corner, under the 35-way plug. Its the one that has 11 terminals coming out of it - all the others have 2 or 3. The ID number might be under the clip - these come off and go back on fairly easily although they are bit gummed up with varnish.

As an alternative, anyone got a dud unit that they are willing to part with so that I could get the part out off (assuming its not in the same state as mine).

Third alternative is - anyone got a working unit for a turbo that they are willing to sell.

4th option for you: The DeLorean uses the same valve and has a standalone idle control ecu. You'd have a bit of wiring to do and you have to install a temp sensor in the engine's coolant somewhere but it works perfectly on the TT DeLorean. All parts available from www.delorean.com (NOT me)

I have one which is collecting dust.
Took it off when I had problems with the engine cutting out. I replaced it with a new one but it didnt solve the problem.
It turned out to be the flywheel sensor instead.
