Seriously guys, I'd heard from the previous owner there was a good community spirit amongst Alpine owners but Im amazed nevertheless. Now I need to fill out my club forms and send in my £30 so I can come down for the next day out and talk to you in person.
Thankyou all for your help

(PS had to get a clutch fork last week - £42 + vat and three days from Renault, v impressed for a so-called "unavailable" part)

If you're doing a clutch, the fork is a no-brainer.

The work requires the rear subframe be dropped and the gearbox removed and replaced. As well as all the hoses and electrics, you have to worry about gear linkage, driveshafts, brake lines............etc

Should also replace spigot bearing, and leave the rear main alone unless it's actually leaking!

I'm with Lee......engine out is a whole lot easier despite what some say. I can do engine out in less than 3 hours now (although I have less stuff to remove than standard). Taking the lot out is much more grief....and Ive done both 3 times now! :?

Now we're talking! I think in future Im going to let market forces play out when buying a sofa or a computer; Id love to watch the clowns from PC World and Curries slug it out in the carpark for my business and then buy one on-line anyway.. :)
I think Ill drop her in to David as Im relatively familiar with that end of the country and have friends down there in case of the inevitable roadside call-outs...
Thanks everyone for all you help and info, this has been a great introduction to what is clearly a pretty lively scene; all the best!
