Europa Cup was Renault's most presteigeous race event, hence why it was run all around the world.

Was the Gordini Turbo ever used in motorsport?

They handle great Mick , mine snapped the engine mounts off with the power twisting them , it still handled though with nothing holding in the engine except the front gearbox mount  !!!!! It would lift off oversteer into the corners but this was exaggerated by the lack of engine mounts somewhat  They'll make 250+ bhp with a modern gt28 blower , forged pistons and steel liners and a gt turbo carb fitted with an intercooler . My old engine was knackered and still really flew on only 15 psi of boost , it hit a 100 mph in a quarter of a mile from standstill without traction , i only pulled away with low rpm and still hit this speed . I' d like to see a GTA do that without a huge budget !!!!!!

I'll see if I can get a 1/4 mile sprint in this weekend and let you know, however peterg's is much lighter and more modified than mine.

Didn't Shaddy post some times from the pod in his standard GTA.

1977 saw Alpine enter the A310 into rallying. It won the French Rally Championship before Renault pulled out of rallying to pursue victory at Le Mans and F1. One year entered and one championship win... Not bad for a car that really isn't a rally car 8)

Bloody hell, I only wanted to say hello - What have I started here!! I've always had a soft spot for the G5T and now, i've finally got one (In some form anyway)

PhilDini - I'm after a decent interior if you have it, a working Ign Mod (Renix 009), Bushes, CPS, a set of decent rot free doors and a set of wheels if you've got anythign laying about. I hear the rear Torsion bar setup is a rate mare to get off without it hurting you. Any truth to this?

I'm lovin' it!

You've wound him up good at proper Gary  . Peter for all the trophies in your cabinet that is still not proof of how quick your car is in a straight line. I agree a GTA would be quicker than a dini around a circuit with the same power to weight ratios but the driver is much more a consideration here. Its also a bit unfair to suggest someone gets a competition license and travels 200 miles to a circuit they have never seen before in a car that may not pass scrutineering. I've witnessed the car make 100 mph on the quarter, I've never seen a GTA do this, standard cars make about 90. I'm sure Gary will be able to post some times up later in the year, but you'll be too busy to get to a quarter mile strip Peter I expect. And if you do beat the 'dini he'll blow you away with his mk1 Escort instead.

Is this thread nearly finished?!

Well, I was enjoying that!

I dont know why people get all hungup about how fast their car can or cant go. I own mine cos I enjoy it not because I believe it's the quickest car around - and of course it isnt.

Ah, but its more proof than anybody else has got on this site...

Id assume he can go faster on a straight than on a corner, and seeing as he does faster times than japanese 4wd machinery designed to go fast round corners, he must be making a hell of alot up on the straights!

I don't think its people getting hung up on how fast it can be...its more that if you KNOW your car is fast (ie more than having mates that tell you it feels quick, or it 'feels' faster than their other high performance car) and then somebody comes on telling you its 'not fast at all', even though you have 1st position wins in multiple races over a whole season, against cars that are obviously 'fast' (and previous record holders)....then it is a bit weird really... :?

Tony.....I dont think its 200 miles from Surry to Cheltenham somehow..and I'm travelling a lot further, I also havent seen the track before (except on video). What I also didnt realise was that his car isnt actually complete at the minute so this is all projected anyway...after all wasnt your car putting out way more than 300bhp until you actually tried it?
Youre right on the 1/4 mile thing.....the nearest place is York raceway so I'd need to spend a whole day to get some 1/4 mile times.....not time well spent as far as I'm concerned.
Whats with the 'and if I beat the Dini he'll blow me away in his mk1 Escort'? what mk1 Escort.....I thought we were discussing a still born 200bhp Renault 5 Gordini????
Its getting like school now.....I'm going to get my big brother to beat you up!!!!

after owning a genuine 200+bhp gt turbo i would have to say the dini would be quicker in a straight theres no doubt about it as ive raced sevaral cosworths/pulsars/evos etc and they were left behiend accelerating upto around 110 i think im going to have to spend some more hard earned cash to get the alpine quicker than my old gtt
