Lee, i'm sure those clever irish folk could acheive what you have done in an hour and 40 minutes.

Get a mate and a set square protractor and do it by eye :roll: :roll:

About to mount the flywheel and such ,had a thought :shock: The block has a flywheel locking hole ,what can/need I do to the flywheel back face to get a sensor mounted there for the future :?:
Was thinking of some dowels in the 3 existing hole configurations ,

lee, why do you want to mount a sensor of the back of the flywheel? ECU upgrade maybe??? If thats the case...... it may be worth dispensing with the timing teeth, they are heavy and not good for acceleration performance, a kin to lightening the flywheel....... even more.

Timing aye :!: :?: ......................3 engineers ,4 hours ,chains and sprockets on and off a dozen times :evil: Counted teeth ,queried whether in fact offset crank .Will it work ,will it fek :evil: :!:



And the reason ,the manual is WRONG


It's not wrong by much ,but the dowel positioning that sets it all off is shown slightly to far round clockwise from vertical on the picture .
What you need to do is set cam A to the approx position shown in the manual ,slacken off the tappets, then adjust both the inlet and outlet on #1evenly till the cam stops turning ,do the same to # 6 .
Put the chain on A ,any old how .Then turn crank through 120 degrees ,and position the other sprocket then it's chain . JD .
You can feel it's right as the cam sprockets go on without any force or need to turn .Cranked it round and all the marks align as they should 8) :D :D I was like a dog wi two dicks :lol:
I cannot take the credit though ,my mate Steve sussed it and I'll never hear the end off it :lol: :lol: :lol:

Tip for getting the setup angles .You start with the keyway pointing straight up .Attach a 6" parallel or flat true item to the crank with a vee block and G clamp, use a protractor with a bubble on it from a woodwork kit and get it horizontal and aligned to the engine .
You can then set the protractor to the required angles ,45 to get to bank cr then 120 to set the opposite bank .All you need to do then is center the bubble and you know it's good :D This is easily visible even when the lumps in the car .

Hardly, at least he dived in and got it right. And the next one he does will take a quarter of the time. I think clee has over-complicated things, but I'm sure there're jobs I do a set way becaue I'm comfortable with it and not because it's the quickest way of doing it.

FWIW I set the cams up roughly as in the maual, and set the crank a little to the LEFT of the book. Put the nut on the crankshaft. Put the first chain on the lower sprocket, as per book. Put the cam sprocket in the chain as per the book and offer the sprocket up to the cam. The locking pin should be a bit to the left of the notch. Rotate crank clockwise slowly till you can pop the locking pin in its notch. Install bolt, chain guides and tensioner. Turn 120 degrees and repeat for ther other bank.

Something that makes it easier is removing all the tappets so the cam rotates freely and you don't get any valve clash probs. You've got to adjust them anyway so you may as well spin them out.

All done bar the fettlin 'n' fiddlen 8) :lol:

I put 3 longer capheads in on the clutch ,these poke through the flywheel by about 5 mil so should be able to be sensed ?? I really should give it a rest now and get back to my proper job though ,bills to pay and this aint doing that :evil: :lol: :lol:

Find out soon I hope .............The lads at the unit have said I can take the car over there to do the installation and little bits needed in the bay ,they want to hear it fire up after all this time :oops: :oops: :lol:
Be nice and warm and hell of a lot easier than on the pebbles :evil:
