Ive got a 21 engine in a GTA if I want 4 pots...., far better design all round than the Dini lump, but still remarkably average...

1.4 turbo GTA

Postby Tony Smith » Mon Jan 22, 2007 10:00 pm

the factory built GTA's with 21 turbo and 1.4 turbo engines before settling on the PRV for the GTA, there are pictures in one of the GTA books somewhere. They settled on the v6 because they thought it was more in keeping with the refined GT they were trying to create. Before we all start congratulating ourselves it should be remembered that the turbo 2 was initially going to run the PRV but they decided the light weight 1.4 turbo engine could produce the power they were looking for (300bhp) and was much lighter and therefore better suited to a mid engined installation.
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

This dyno plot is from a 1.4 litre pushrod engine with a tiny carb and the inferior GT turbo cylnder head . A Gordini engine will hit this power much easier , in fact the boys have got them to make so much power that the renault 5's are almost untouchable due to a huge power to weight ratio with mind blowing grunt and acceleration    Image

Here's one with a better street set up as the other is a bit too laggy for what i wanted . Expect my new engine to produce this sort of power with 1.4 litres , 4 cylinders , a tiny carb and a overhyped GTA with only 210 bhp at the wheels trying to keep up !!!!!!!!!   Image
