I was thinking along V8 lines I have to admit. 911 flat 6 is a great engine but very expensive to tune for real power i.e 400bhp plus , I heard they weren't they reliable either. The famous Rocket Ronnie who's Skyline has won successive 10 of the best titles in full road trim bought a GT3 to use for sprints and stuff instead of the Skyline, not only was it substantially slower round the circuit but it kept breaking so he got rid of it and went back to his skyline! If it happens it will definitely be yank V8 probably supercharged - cheap, reliable, easy to fix, and lots of off the shelf tuning parts. Don't want anything with turbos as it is for a circuit car and n/a is better really in that scenario.
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

What are you talking about????.....there have been several 2.0 Cosworth derivatives of Ford engines that are known as Cosworths. Are you being pedantic?

I'm guessing Martin means the bellhousing adaptor rather than the engine.

BTW a couple of the DeLorean guys have swapped out the gearbox for a Porsche one which provides an almost identical driveshaft placement, incliding the same splines on the o/p. This opens up a whole load more engine conversion possibilities. I drove a friend's DeLorean form New Jersey to Chicago last summer with 206 at the wheels from a naturally asp Nissan VQ35 V6 coupled to a Porsche box. Apart from a diabolical shift linkage, it could be steered on the throttle and is beautifully driftable.

Yes, thanks Steve. I can't really see how my post is ambiguous if you think about it for half a second. I was quoting DG's list, and saying "they only ever made one" might indicate I wasn't talking about 2 litre cossie engines.... *sigh*

BTW I did post something else last night whcih seems to have never made it. There're a couple of small block Chevvy conversions in DeLoreans which use an off-the-shelf bellhousing. However they appear not to be very accurate ebcause the boxes have trouble snapping input shafts.

BTW just realised my post about the Porsche box is a bit daft if we're talking mid-engined - doh!

The Chevy to UN1 converesion is nearly as old as the Rover V8. Its more likely just to the torque and kind of application it was usually used in (GT40/Countach repica market) with lots of rubber and long final drive.

Like I said, you wouldnt use a aftermarket bellhousing unless both faces had been re-machined after casting either.

Anything can be made, going even to the point of an adaptor plate, or having the original V6 bellhousing cut down, and a new billet flange for the new engine mounted to the old housing.

With the cost of a G50 box, I would have thought that it would make sense to have the standard box upgraded instead :?
