Postby mav » Fri Apr 30, 2004 12:49 pm

Can anybody help i was working on car yesterday and unconnected battery. Decided to call it a day and locked car up using key.( battery still dissconected ). When i came to open the door this morning the car will unlock but the door will not open. Can anybody tell me how to get in this car with more door handles than a block of flats.

Getting In

Postby stephendell » Fri Apr 30, 2004 3:32 pm

Crawl underneath. Hook up a jump pack or charger to the starter main feed or positive distribution junction on the rear firewall and earth. Turn the key & you'll get in.

can't get in

Postby mav » Fri Apr 30, 2004 5:03 pm

Tried that hooked up the main feed to the starter and earthed it !? I checked the earth by bridging the starter terminals and it spun up so the earth's ok. Apart from calling Autoglass 'n seeing which is the cheapest window to replace i'm stuck! I'll give it another go off the positive distributuin feed on the rear firewall location wish me luck! Just in case is there any way of releasing the bonnet externally??

The idea is just to give the car power. So + from jump pack/charger to a meaty accessible + on car i.e. starter + or main distribution + (under plastic cover). Then - from jump pack/charger to block/chassis or other decent earth point. Then with power on use the key and the solenoid should release. The problem with early GTA's is that there is no physical connection between the key barrel and the lock so you need power to get in. On the later cars this is no longer a problem.

I've only ever used this trick with a flat battery, so maybe it doesn't work with no battery at all.

Don't break any glass. It's all expensive or needs special bits of trim/bonding etc. Phone Paul on 02087666480 if you get stuck.

Good luck!!
