UPDATE: The part number for the speed sensor has changed.
The new clip in sensors are 77 00 418 919. The older number
is no longer recognised by Renault.

I've had several cracks develop in the muffler hangers on my exhaust
system and rather than just repair them I've tried to put in some
preventative welding and extra support to stop it happening again.
Trouble is the muffler (I have the stainless steel option with the
double tailpipes) weighs a freaking tonne and obviously being
hung out on the back of the engine gets subjected to some serious
G's on hard corners. Are then any lighter, better units available that
are less prone to cracking brackets around. The Orbisoud exhaust
looks smaller but is it any lighter or even worthwhile getting?

Anyway shes all back together and working and thats the main thing.

so you have the vector one (Elia)?

or the orbisoud one?

the best thing to have is the race one, do you have a cat on it at the moment?

if not replace the whole system with an orbisoud race one as it has its own support frame which bolts to the gearbox.....you can then remove the old brackets at the top of the engine. you'll never have a problem with it again,

it will also sound better and give you a little more power



if you really nead a cat on it and you can get a fabricator to open up the collector and insert an element for you, as it was origianlly produced as a cat but they only sell them empty now.

Well I'm pretty sure its not an Orbisoud unit, not sure what it is though
Here are some pics, the first shows where the cracks appeared
and the yellow line is where I put in a brace. I've since added some
braces around the closer muffler hanger using stainless steel to
help out that single SS strap at that end.




The second pic shows the plethora of exhausts out the back, overkill sure but people seem to like it

Looks like a racing Orbisoud system is the go, they look lighter, sit lower and thats all good, what are they worth?

yes, it's definately some custom made job, was it on the car when you originally bought it?

and orbisoud road unit has a smaller silencer and has the name plaque welded into it, the one you have is a different shape altogether.


the full orbisoud race system which consists of

Manifold, 4 into 1 collector, U bend connector, silencer, mounting frame, 2x joint clamps for the U bend and 2 hangers for the silencer, all in stainless but no bolts is about £1500 inc vat,

and it's so easy to fit

if you want one and can't source it where you are we could sort something out for you here and ship it to you if needed.

you know your's cracked on the silencer, mine cracked on the black brackets that it mounts to..... if you start to hear a rattle and can physically see anything loose... check the black brackets as they may have cracked.

Yes, the previous owner had it fitted before he migrated to Australia.
He said it was a Renault optional sports exhaust...?

I'm pretty sure that I've found and repaired all the cracks. I ran all
day yesterday in the Superkhana and the car was flawless. I had a
great time and managed to beat the brother in law on every run

I'll get an Orbisoud eventually. This year is not a good one for buying
stuff for the toy though. I have to save up for a trip to Victoria where
I'll be racing at Winton and watching the hill climbs at Mt Buller. If I
have any problems finding an Orbisoud I'll certainly get in touch.
