Le Mans 24 hours, June 16 & 17 2007

Postby rupert » Tue Jan 09, 2007 6:13 pm

This year will be my 21st visit to this event. Last year I actually organised a trip with a few friends (including Tony) and we had a pretty good time. :D

I would be very happy to organise/coordinate a trip this year for Alpiney people that might be interested.

(Check out www.beermountain.com 8) for a general feel of the event if you don't know about it)

I would suggest that rather than a full on organised trip we all get tickets for the same camp site as I will be going early and will bag us a decent pitch.... which is what I did last year so we can all camp together.

Now then is there anyone interested.....

If so I always use the Red... Expo camping site, you should still be able to get tickets from Just Tickets, you pay a small premium though but can be sure of getting the tickets. Usually they will insist you buy two general entrance tickets as well. This is a good site, lots of shade close to the main entrance and also easy to get into town. Clean showers and loos as well and a massive bar... funnily enough. :D

You can always wait till nearer the race to get the camp site tickets (on ebay), or contact the ACO direct for tickets but there is no certainty. The camp site ticket is the main thing as general entrance tickets are available on the gate. If you want to be sure then get on to Just Tickets right now..... They are very reliable but they will sell out.

Rupert, This fits in perfectly with my sprinting/hillclimbing season, a clear weekend, so I'm up for it. Friday to Monday seems quite civilised and relaxing?
Please excuse my silly questions but I have not been to Le Mans since '88. Even then I was only a passenger and everything was provided for me, including the Brits whooping the Germans.

So, exactly what are you buying in the way of tickets etc, camping/entrance/stands/other areas/etc.I have looked on the JustTickets site and the choose is overwhelming. Any draft agenda, travel paln or anything else which should be sketched out. .... Simon.

I'll probably be down there from Wednesday to get a decent pitch. Thursday is a good day to arrive, gives time to find your way around and relax.

I think it is easiest if everyone makes their own way there, overnight ferries need to be booked early, the shuttle should be okay for a last minute dash though.

As I said the main thing at this stage is a camping pass for the Expo site. Just tickets may insist that you buy two General Entrance Tickets as well as part of their deal. I'd be surprised if any Grandstand tickets were still available but if they are then J/T would be able to get them, or wait until nearer the time and try ebay.

The General Entrance tickets give access to all parts of the Circuit and are valid for the whole week of the event. Also valid for the prequalifying event the preious weekend (usually that weekend anyway).

Rupert, Today I managed to get through to JustTickets, so I'm now all paid up. I just hope that the weather will be better than it is today.

Good to see a number of people going over. As usual, I will be taking the GTA but hopefully this year it won`t be returning on the back of a lorry (alternator failure in the centre of Rouen). I will probably arrive on the Monday for the weeks activities and will be staying at my place in town (getting soft in my old age, but can still hear the engines screaming down the Mulsanne) but unless I can get the hot water fixed, I would probably be just as well camping. Would be pleased to hook up with you all at some stage (Arnage, Friday lunchtime anybody?)

Any one booked travel yet?
Eurotunnel have a 5 day short stay saver ticket.
I thought I'd go out on Thursday between 10-12 and return Monday between 4-6, £108 return.
Seems to allow for a leisurely drive each way, when we went to the Le Mans WSR 2006, I think we left Folkstone at 1ish and arrived at about 8pm, seemed like a long day, but we did have some detours.

I have today received an orderform directly from LeMans in respect of an email reservation I made months ago. I have been offered 2 camping pitches (46 euro each) and 4 weekend entrance tickets (61 euro each), but they need to be paid for by 16 March or the reservation will be released.

The camping pitches are in the new Beausejour area in the centre of the circuit.
Map on here http://www.lemans.org/sport/sport/calendrier/pdf/billet24h_2007.pdf

Surplus to my requirements, if any one wants them..... contact me quickly.

Hi All,

Well I am travelling over on Tuesday evening, should arrive on Wednesday about midday.

I will fence off a suitable area at the back of the site, hopefully in one of the open barns which offer shade... Trust me on this.

The list is currently:

1: Rupert GTA turbo
2: Tony Law + 1 GTA LeMans (what else!)
3: Simon Taylor + 1? GTA turbo
4: Richard Wilson + 1 A610....or Range Rover....
5: Simon Gamblen .....Possibly +1? GTA Turbo
6: Jules + 1 GTA Turbo
7: David Turner + 1 Aston DB6
8 Jon Billings Datsun 240Z

Don't forget ideally you need Expo (red) camping ticket, or reserved Expo Red) parking to get in. You can get cicuit entry tickets there no problem.

I'll keep updating this info.

Anyone got an 'Alpine' flag?

Rupert, my tickets have arrived now, by registered post too.
Apart from cash, you will need to advise me what else I will need for the weekend, perhaps catch you on Monday at the Surrey Quays?
