GTA Rear Lights

I've just replaced both rear light clusters along with new bulbs. All the nearside lights are still slightly dimmer than the offside ones (was hoping the new clusters would cure ). The plug in connector is a tight fit and given it a shot of wd40. Anyone come across it before or have any ideas what to try next ?
