Wanted GTA in good condition

OK, I'm wanting to join the GTA club please.

I am currently looking at both non-turbo and turbo cars, with a leaning towards turbos now because of potential improvements to performance over time, but interest in a good car is the key thing.

Ideally a metalic and not red or white. Black fine. No major lacquer probs and FSH ideally.

I am near bristol but looking at cars in Hants and Lancs so will travel.

There is a metalic blue GTA turbo for sale on ebay at the moment. It was for sale last week for £4795.00, but has now been reduced to £3950.00. The car looks lovely and although somepeople might think buying from ebay is a bit dogdey, i bought mine from there and think this blue one is well worth a look.

hi mike, i have a 1988 gta v6 atmos, it's pearl white with 74k on it.
later type bonnet model. i have done looooads of work to it but now have 2 other alpines competing for space!!!! it was my first alpine and i love it but........i guess it has to go. good luck with what ever car you choose.

Sounds like a great car, but I'm a bit funny about colours. I think white is out 'cos I had a 3.0GT Capri in white and we both had a nasty experience.
Luckily I walked away but the car didn't survive. (I was 17 at the time, first car!). Ever since I've never liked white cars, association/tranference or whatever I guess.

There's a metallic red turbo for £4k just come on a trader.

There's a silver turbo for sale on classic and sports website, and presumably in the mag too.

If that silver car is in Manchester.....I spoke to the bloke, gave me a tale of woe about illness and getting ripped off by his employees, so he shut all his businesses and the GTA is the only thing he couldnt get rid of!!! It has very little service history but has been tuned up. It has 2 cracked front lenses (£400 and a botch of a job....arent they all??? ) He declined to have the car inspected by the AA or the like cause he reckoned they had damaged cars of his previously. It has bubbling on one door and a few chips and blemishes but sounded good over all. Told me he would take £7000 and not a penny less......offered him £6500 and he virtually told me to get lost!

Wish I'd bought it now.....might be working still!!!!! He had it on ebay too.....hes been trying to get rid of it since last year.

Just follow the info in the 'Price Guide' section of the site & you won't go far wrong when buying a GTA.

Bubbling door & broken glasses doesn't sound like £7K+ to me, that's probably why he's been struggling since last year to sell it!

If he's not in a hurry and has the space fair enough.

But it's just the attitude. There's the old saying you buy from people you like, and there's some truth in that. The picture I have in my mind is someone arrogant and untrustworthy. Now this is probably wrong and he's a really nice chap but that's the IMPRESSION he gives.

I'm curious, you've just sold this house and having trouble with the car. You're obviously a fine sports car lover.

If it was me with all that cash sloshing around I'd be very tempted to buy something in the porker mold, fast AND reliable (excluding 964). Then you've got all your japanese stuff RX7, scubees, skylines and they are hewn from granite if they haven't been Chaved. I know this is heracy.

But one of my key drivers for interest in the GTA is value! Unfortunately the price you pay is reliability and next to non-existent service specialists. I can live with that, second car and only £5k to spend. For me it makes a lot of sense.

I just sold my mint 968 & kept the Alpines. The Porsche was definately better built and more reliable, but the Alpine is certainly more individual. If you want an everyday reliable sportscar buy a Porsche. If you want something a little bit different & a bit more interesting buy an Alpine!

When I said Ive got lots of cash I am also aware that I will have to buy another at some point so cant afford to blow the lot, but a grand or 3 to get the car how I want is acceptable. I picked the Alpine because I wanted one. japanese stuff is very boring and common.....I like to be different. The other car on my shortlist before I bought the Alpine was an Integrale, but I have a serious rust phobia having owned 2 Alfasuds and a Sprint! The Alpine is only a toy for me so I dont really need reliability (though some would be nice!), Ive got a 3litre Omega for that, and thankfully a trailer to transport my stricken Alpine around on (or to speed events once its fixed!). If I went mental and blew all my house money I'd have picked a Lancia Stratos or an 037 Rallye (big Lancia fetish going on!)......but I love my Alpine for what it is.....a sub 10k 80s supercar.

Very true Peter. Playing devil's advocate there, some great nit cars about ON PAPER, I was looking at the data on a 3000GT Mitsi. they are very very quick and can be had for 4 to 5 grand plus all the mod cons aircon etc, but they just don't have that x-factor.

Shame about italian cars too, I have had 2 X1/9s and a Strada, such character but RUST is the killer. Strangely they were all very reliable though.

My local Renault garage is literally 2mins walk away. So I thought it might be worth enquiring whether they would work on an Alpine. They too were happy and said they service other peoples at the moment (wonder who they are). Their hourly rate is £56. I shall be going to Roadspeed though unless a dyer emergency.

As well as my GTA Turbo I run a Skyline R32 GTR with some well chosen mods. I can assure you its not boring and there are less in the country than GTA's.
