if you unbolt the oil cooler from the block, you can spin a filter directly onto the engine as on the naturally asp engines. Crossland 659 filter is a good, compact filter and NB not the same thread as what's on the end of the cooler.

The cooler is there more to heat up the water for the heater matrix quicker than keeping the oil cool. In fact my 24v XM had had the oil "cooler" removed, and the net result was that drivng in the rain caused the oil temp to plummet.

If you're plumbing in the water cooling to the turbo, you really don't need to worry about the oil cooler.

Don't be silly, if that was so you'll find the water flowing through the water 'cooled' turbo is going to heat the water up quicker than the oil based water 'warmer :lol: ' does as its directly in the exhaust gas stream...

The oil cooler is there to cool the oil.

It is also there to warm the water up faster during warm up, and keep the relationship between the two temperatures closer. It's a heat exchanger more than a "cooler" Perhaps I was ambiguous, but unless under extreme thrashing-the-engine use, the oil "cooler" is keeping the oil warmer. I have seen the resulls of removing it remember... ie actually DONE IT.

Ive never come across an oil cooler designed to warm the water quicker......clearly Ive missed something or do I smell ballshot?!!! :lol:

A oil 'cooler' is used to 'regulate' the temp, not keep it cool, hence why there are two types, water cooled and thermostatically air cooled. The water 'cooled' type will regulate the temp around 80-100, and likewise the air cooled system with a proper thermostatic valve to allow or shut off oil flow to the rad will again regulate the temp...

By taking your oil water cooler off the 24v you just said the oil temps plummeted, er, this is not a good thing. I haven't DONE it as you put it because its wrong...

If you have a problem with water temps going so high that it affects the oil temp then you have problems elsewhere...
