Tyre size.

My GTA Turbo will hopefully be back on the road again soon after a long period laid up and in pieces, but it is in severe need of new rubber all round. Fronts are not a problem but prices I am being quoted for rears are quite frightening.

I have the standard "turbine" alloys and currently have fitted 255/45/15 on the rear. However I note on Stephen's "sticky" post entitled New Tyres in the For Sale and Wanted section that he states GTA Standard Rear size as 225/50/15.

Is this correct? Will 225/50/15's fit the standard turbine alloys, as these are infinately more reasonable price wise and much easier to get hold of, or do I need to save my pennies and wait even longer before I can get my car back on the road.

plenty of GTA owners run on 225 tyres, I think you will see that they are mentioned in the drivers handbook too.

The other option, which I took, is to fit larger wheels, like 17 inch, and the 255x17 tyres are then cheap(ish) again.

Atmo's ran 225/50's on turbine alloys from the factory. As long as you get a decent brand I shouldn't think you'll notice much difference in every day driving. They do look a bit skinnier in the arches though.

You can source 245-50-15 Dunlops if anybody is interested, pretty close to the originals...

Where can you buy these 255 50 15 from ? I've had a quick look on the internet but I could'nt find them ?
