Rear shunt - gutted - any advice!!

Had a brief chat with DaveG - thanks for the advice - about a rear shunt I've just been involved in.

Classic roundabout job - guy behind thinks I've gone and then floors it not realising I was still there. Totally pi$$ed off to say the least!!

Anyway, want to know what I'm best doing to get the best result. I live in Cheshire so was thinking of just utilising Renault Manchester. According to Dave things should be reasonably straightforward - the damage hopefully isn't too severe, although sourcing parts/prices could be a problem.

Looks like a new rear bumper and inner skin, new exhaust (I hope), rear nearside light housing (oh dear!), rear grill and repair to the nearside rear wing that has buckled over the rear part of the wheel arch. (Fortunately the damage to the rear wing doesn't look like it's extended to the rear quarter window.

Will be phoning the insurance company tomorrow but any advice on this one would be greatly received on what I should/shouldn't do. It's on a 3000 miles limited mileage but will certainly be looking for a hire car - presume that won't be a problem?

First things first, hows your Gregory Peck :wink: Where theres blame theres a claim!

As it was the guy who hit you from behind fault ensure the insurance gets your car fixed and not wriiten off. When someone hit me up the asp I got the cost of repairs not including VAT (quoted by a bosyshop) as a cheque and repaired it myself at a lower cost and got a full stainless exhaust instead of a OE one. If you do go down this route I'm sure you could buy the parts yourself off DG etc ( I have a rear bumper by the way).

The old Gregory is starting to throb a litle I must agree! :twisted:

That rear bumper could come in handy - especially if I get into a right off scenario! The rear nearside light housing is going to eb the difficult one to source and one that could potentially turn it into a right off! :P

I hit a car up the asp yesterday, geezer got out ..he was a dwarf, he said " i'm not happy ", i said " so which one are you then? ".
never really ever thought that i would own a gta, but am i happy that i do!!.

I'll try and get some piccys up - it'll kill me seeing them though! :(

I'm hoping the damage isn't going to be too severe - Ren Manchester have had it two days and not yet completed the assessment - doesn't sound too good does it!! :(

And yes, I have suffered a bit of whiplash - I've been in a rear end shunt before and escaped unjury, but this time not so I'm obviously going to get it checked out.

Also be very careful if it is repaired that it's not got stress cracks in the gel coat. They sometimes take months or longer to appear through the paint and unfortunately it's not something that is always spotted at the time and they can then appear after the repair is done and dusted.

Looks like we are all chasing rear light cluster. My son parked his bike against it and then shut the garage door. Door squeezed bike squeezed rear cluster, crack and splinter. I told him it would come out his pocket money, had not idea at the time - that it would be a problem. Bu**er :roll:
