Atmo box in turbo

Postby clee » Wed Sep 19, 2007 10:26 am

How much real difference would it make ?4th and 5th ???
I have an Atmo box that I had sold ages ago but still here, the guy has had a change of plans so its available to buy back  .My Turbo 2nd is in need of attention so I was thinking to get the Atmo box refurbed and swap them over .I can't see it makes any real difference ?

Think it's just the ratio's in 4th and 5th, not going to make any difference on the track though?

Do you want me to get a price from my mate on a rebuild?

Hang on, if it's an Atmo box, it'll have the 3.4 final drive and be facing the correct way. If it's from a 25 turbo, it'll have the 3.8 final and be the wrong way around.

Atmo 4th and 5th are marginally shorter - less than 250rpm at full whack.

My price for refurb and any work (like flipping the diff) is £400, if you're interested. If you're not using the flywheel sensor, Can I swap your bellhousiong for an older one without the sensor mounts? *pretty please with sugar on* :D

BTW I have a turbo gearbox here ready to go.... except it needs a bellhousing bolting up to it *cough*

Box is from a GTA Atmo, but it needs the diff reversing as it was fitted to a mid-engined kit car and has been reversed once already!

I have an Atmo box in mine, its fine but i'm really looking to change back to standard as 80mph = 3500rpm which is a bit tiring on the motorway. Also i don't hit 60 in 2nd.....

So if anyone wants to swap........

You won't hit 60 in second with a turbo box either ,they're the same 'cept for 4th and 5th .
I need to swap them out and as yet ,still have nowhere to do it safely ,so rebuild the Atmo box ,drop the guts and reinstall. Will have a Turbo box ( in need of attention ) afterwards
Logistics
I'll have thinks Martin  I need to sit down and take stock ........Depends on the price/deal ( bit steep ) and more importantly the quality of the blackstuff in Kent :?:
I have a bell housing sitting in the shed .It's owner seems to have disappeared :?
I have measured the bellhousing hole positions if of any use I can email cad data ?

Hi mate, The price is for my local specialist chappie who's done several boxes for me over the past few years including Darren and Rob's GTA boxes. They're all split, thoroughly checked over, 2nd gear selector fork roll pin is reinforced and anything that needs doing is flagged. The casing is blasted and painted and box goes back together with a complete set of seals. I'll post a couple of pics when I get home.

How much for the bellhousing on exchange? :)

Should be possible right on the rev limit.

If not it may be your diff that's the wrong one rather than the ratios in the box. Or possibly not a GTA box at all.

60 should be possible with a lack of mechanical sympathy.

My understanding is that's the reason for the difference between the factory quoted perfomance times and the contemporary magazine roadtest figures. i.e. down from 7s to under 6s due to one less gear change.
