Yes, well, some people seem to like an' loath it...
All I wonder is how would this car do with an English MOT and an Insurer? Seems no reinforcement has been fitted after butchering the roof? what would the situation be with MOT? What's this about a CAT also?

Well, it's certainly unique and yes, as mentioned somewhat, I suspect that the person who had the idea was a 'shy, quiet and retiring type' who preferred to read poetry and study philosophy.
Beautiful steering wheel and exhaust pipes.... would have maybe got away with two doubles justabout but it does look a little comical.

Still a French person has bought it and he will probably become a celebrity within his region.

It shouldn't be a problem as the roof isn't structural, ask El Presidente.
As for the CAT, I think it means 'it's scares cats' :lol:

My god, the hair matches the car!

In fact, if this is the new owner, he will not only become a celebrity in his area but famous and remembered wherever he drives the thing... Probably cause a few nightmares also.....
Also don't know what the police would make of it as he zooms by with the hood down, hair blowing wildly in the wind.

I bet it doesn't have a real engine in it though, just a plastic pretend one that someone made with the bodywork, thats the only catch with it.

Well, joking aside I think I do like it because it is just so odd. The wheels are nice looking also. Certainly different by a long shot and I would think it could be worth alot more in France than what it sold for......

The roof is structural on a GTA. Steves car has mucho reinforced sills.

Well, I should imagine that it is very structural indeed if some poor soul were to crash/ roll the thing. Still I guess you got the protection of the canvas hood and windscreen! :roll:
Maybe best to wear a Crash Helmet when driving it, although it could get a little stuffy on hot day and somewhat defeats the purpose of having a convertible. :twisted:

:oops: ...It isn't on either A110s or A310s.... so I thought.... Is the chassis really that weak :shock:

I thought maybe a convertible / or at least a 'standard' convertible model that the manufacturer created presents itself as a standard car MOTwise and has been classified as a legitimate model that has been properly safety tested. Generally are not convertibles/ or at least fairly modern convertibles standard manufacturer created models that have a roll structure fitted? Is the little Renault Spider fitted with a roll structure? would have thought it essential?
This is a modified car and would it not have to follow certain safety rules concerning the roof removal? I don't know and this is interesting. Seems that insurers want to know of mods etc, even down to a changed exhaust pipe? Do not MOT's have similar classifications? I mean they seem to give my cars a good going over.....:oops:

I just wonder as my original question asked, what would an MOT tester would make of the roof cut off and no cage/ structure? It's a modified non standard car. Surely the MOT somewhat acknowledges Standard Cars and modified ones/ rules etc?
Well, I don't know but maybe others do? Seems a little 'grey' so far the area? I guess the concrete test would be to take it for a few MOT's in a few different places.....!! :roll:

You're referring to new cars, yes you're probably correct, but older cars very rarely had proper roll protection.

I doubt whether an MOT tester would know if it was standard or not.
I'm pretty certain that you don't need to tell them.

It would be interesting to know from El Presidente exactly what has been done to strenthen his one (and Joes).

I'm not sure when the legal date for roll protection came into force but even that was (maybe still is) rather superficial, in as much as you could have bought an audi convertible in the late 90s which had a 'roll hoop' in the screen surround but would have lost you life if you were over 5ft 10" and you'd rolled it, as your head would still stick out over the line between screen and boot.

My car has German TUV approval so I'm guessing the re-inforcements must meet some sort of minimum standard. Wouldn't want to roll it though!

The yellow car looks nothing like mine so no idea what has been done to that one.

Still quite like this 'LeMons' thing... it's certainly different .... Wonder what tuning mods it has.....? Think it was mentioned that it was 'tuned'....?
