Upping A610 boost... How?

Postby little ghost » Fri Nov 23, 2007 2:14 pm

Hi, Just wondering as i'm new to the A610... how easy is it to up the boost on the turbo. What is needed? My old car had no fuel cut so it was a simple case of bleed valve or boost controller, uprated pump... job done. I get the idea that the A610's ECU is restrictive. Is that right? 250BHP just isn't enough!

Thanks,
Alex

You can use a boost adjuster/controller/bleed valve on the A610 to up the boost. There is a factory cut out at 1 bar, but the A610 is different to the GTA in that it has a boost cut out sensor seperate to the ecu on the right hand side of the engine. Don't unplug it, just disconnect the pressure feed to it and plug it up (engine side) Then set the boost to 1 bar max.

Great. Thanks mate. So that'll give me.. what? 280-300BHP? And it'll handle the extra boost OK then?

That's all they did on the Venturi 300, apart from a larger intercooler. MJG's 300 as been dyno'd at 290+

Would you recommend uprated actuator or boost controller... turbosmart?

Thing i worry about is that i won't know when i'm running 1bar because the turbo guage doesn't have numbers on it! So that would be an aftermarket boost gauge too?

Go for a boost controller. Changing the actuator is a far from simple job. Even though it 'looks' quite accessable its not, and the luck of fitting a new uprated one and it being the completly correct rating is nigh on impossible, so you still going to need a boost controller of some kind.

Yes, you'll need an aftermarket gauge. Also plumb it on the inlet manifold side of the throttle body, not from the original take off.
