GTA Le Mans

Postby charles » Sun Apr 18, 2004 10:18 pm

Ive got a real strange problem, not sure if anyone has had simular or any ideas on the cause. The car runs fine for a short period of time, then starts to miss and loose power. The battery dosnt charge and you can get the car to miss fire by turning on lights heated rear window, when you turn off the lights the car runs fine again. After a while turning the lights off dosnt help. Its been to an auto elec but they say they cant find a problem. The car is at the gararge but they too seem to be at a loss. Any suggestions

presume it is something to do with the loss of power at the fuel pump.... are you able to check fuel pressure?
possible bad earthing or connections on the supply to the fuel pump causing a power drop. Once the fuel pressure is down it will misfire like it is running out of gas..
Good luck
Any one got any other ideas?

Hi Charles, I enabled the BBCodes in your posts so that the quotes would display correctly. Please let me know if I have set the configuration for the site in a way that does not let regular users do this.

Thanks
Stephen

It's probably too far from you, but I'm fairly certain that Alpine Renault Restoration could track down the fault. Call 02087666480 & ask to speak to Paul.

PS. Check the large multiplug near the right hand rear lamp cluster. This handles all the engine management. If the engine surges or misses when you wiggle it, it could be the problem. Try cleaning all the contacts, it causes all sorts of strange problems otherwise. It was modified to a sealed type on the 610 as a result.

Charles,

Do you think you could let me know the VIN number and car number of your Le Mans. I'm the GTA registrar of C.A.R.
I've managed to trace 21 of the original 25 and yours maybe one that I haven't got.

Le Mans misfire

Postby turbodog » Sat May 08, 2004 12:36 pm

The problem you have got is caused by bad earthing.Check your main lead from the battery to the chassis at the front of the car and the main lead from the chassis to the gearbox at the rear.
Your car does not have a multiplug by the rear right-hand light cluster. Only the early turbo cars had this. All later turbos and Le Mans cars have the engine direct to the ECU. Your fuel connections are at the rear of the car by the fuel pump.
