Converting the selector of a 369 gearbox

Postby turbo 5 » Thu Jan 17, 2008 9:40 am

Morning all.

Have a problem and hope that one (or many) might have the answer. Car is an A310 that has a 369-02 gearbox.
The gearbox has a single gear selector shaft, and I would like to convert it to a twin selector shaft type. Thought of using the selector housing and selector mechanism from an R25 (5 speed) would this work? Or are there alternatives that I should consider?

Also does anyone have an R25 (5 speed) box available, not bothered if it is broken, as long as the selector mechanism is still good.

Many thanks

I can definitely help.

I have two 25t boxes, both in full working order, going spare. To go in a 310, the final drive has to be flipped as you know.

I also have a 610 box which I'd be happy to swap the end casing with you for.

I ALSO have a 5 speed 369-01 rebuilt for a DeLorean with a 3.8 final drive and strengthened input shaft coupler. All bead blasted and all new seals. It'd go straight in your car... Asking £400 outright for that, plus your old one.. (the strengthened coupler is some $200 alone.)

What a load of goodies you have.

Want to keep my 369.02 in the car if possible but want to change the selector housing and the 'prime' selector mechanism so that I end up with two gear selector input shafts, rather than the one I have, as this will make it easier for me to then install a mechanical sequential changer.

Will the rear cover of your 25 box fit my 369.02 and if so do you think the gear change will still work :D

If not, or maybe as well :D would you be willing to sell your 369.01, without an exchange, as I need to keep my .02, just in case the sequential fails miserably :( Also on the .01 is this a dual cable selector box?

Thanks

Hi Mark ;)

Firstly, and I'm ashamed to admit it, but I can't remember if the 25 boxes use a single or double shaft linkage. Despite having a very close view of them both while stripping them out, and falling over one or the other on a regular basis.... I need to have a quick look but I believe they're really similar to the 369 - a single long(er) arm.

AFAIK the end casings are interchangable across all the 5 speed UN1/369 boxes. The bellhousing certainly is.

If you'd prefer to buy my 369-01 outright, make me an offer ;) It's sitting there doing nothing and has been for 2 years. It was to be part of a low ratio silly powerful 3 litre turbo DeLorean... but I bought the Venturi instead :D

Can you swap the crown wheel as easily as that though?

The crownwheel will need to be correctly shimmed, question does the crown wheel foul the bell housing?

Its just I heard all this when I was considering building a 21T powered GTA the bell housing had to be modified, this may be due to the design of the 21 T's Bell housing being a lot different. Is this possible with other bell housings, I suppose if you have the correct one for the car it should be ok?

The V6 bellhousing is symetrical internally so the crownwheel can be put in either way around.
