Oooh - I recognise that - it's in this month's Top Gear mag... p107 one of five "icons of mentalism"

Not really worth buying the mag for, just a small piccy and a 4* rating

Why would he want to use a UN1 box when there are plenty of cheap strong Audi transaxles that would fit straight onto that motor?????

Interesting piece of work - but a V6 Audi lump mated to UN1 Gearbox in a GTA sounds like a nice setup and upgrade to me

Probably be burnt at the stake now for suggesting that

From the little that I know, it would depend what the Audi lump is made of (unless you are going to turn it around and go mid engined like the Esprit)- the PRV is all alloy, so quite light:shock: - reducing the rear engined car effect.
If the Audi lump was steel, you'd increase the weight behind the rear wheel- great for traction but bad for handling....
Now what about a complete 4WD system from an audi....?
Come on someone must know more about this than me....

Quoted from a VAG Website

High peak output, beefy pulling power at mid-range engine speeds, low fuel consumption and refined running – these strengths typify all Audi V-engines. The new engine family, consisting of V6, V8 and V10 power units, was first unveiled in 2004. Its distinguishing technical features are a standard cylinder angle of
90 degrees, an internal calibre of 90 millimetres and timing-chain drive of the camshafts and auxiliaries mounted compactly on the rear of the engines. The new 2.8 FSI fits into the range between the 3.2 FSI and the 2.4.

The 2.8 FSI has the same bore as its big brother at 84.5 mm. Meanwhile its stroke is only 82.4 mm instead of 92.8 mm – this slightly oversquare configuration produces a swept volume of 2,773 cm3 and excellent responsiveness.

The alloy crankcase, derived from the version used for the 3.2 FSI, is very compact at just 360 mm long, 430 mm wide and 228 mm high. It weighs a mere 33 kilograms – with the entire engine tipping the scales at 165 kg. Its two banks of cylinders are offset by 18.5 mm.

According to wikipedia PRV (non turbo???) weighs in at 150kg. So not too much in it.

As I said- what do I know!!
Sounds like 15kg could be compensated for- I was trying to lose 20 IB anyway
It'll need new engine management (probably) - saw pictures of a vw camper bus with a golf diesel engine-they had to fit the golf dashboard in the engine bay to get it to work at all.
Who's going to do it then? How about Martin and Clee as a race to get it working first....??
