ANOTHER GTA TURBO DIES!

Postby hartgefan5 » Mon Feb 11, 2008 12:39 pm

a few weeks ago i introduced myself to you as i had bought a gta to restore, unfortunately i have now got the car back to my workshop and raised up to find that its gone too far!, its very rusty underneath with all wishbones and engine cradle rotten :( ,a fecking shame as its only done 52k i thought it was less but it had a speedo at 23k,it was radbourne racings managing directors car, registered 29th march 1990(one of the last??) in stratos blue with black leather and abs.
it originally came with fagix split rim colour coded alloys which are sadly long gone, car now has the standard alloys.
the chassis no is 42810 in case anyone is keeping a register,i will stick the good parts in the for sale section when i get time, cheers guys

its pretty bad, rear drivers side i could pull away with my hand, passengers side is ok??.front jacking points i dont see, is it just the subframe you use? certainly nothing obvious i can see, pointers?.everything metal underneath is corroded i just think it would make sense to start with a better car.opinions welcome

Well the rear is all easily swappable .As long as the turrets are good .Normally they go a little bit N/S where the exhaust manifold runs close .
The jacking point is doable in-situ I'm told .Not sure on the front subframe but again if the turrets are sound ..................
Depends how much time and money you want to put in I suppose :|
You certainly wont get it back

Real shame to see another one broken up. Is it worth offering for sale as a project before breaking it?

I always think it's a great shame that Renault didn't galvanise the chassis. I guess it would have made the cars more expensive though.

PM sent.

I am travelling up to scotland next week so could take a look at the rust if you want? I have most of the bits you need to get it solid again, let's get it back on the road.................

Another one for M and S Alpine Restoration

I went to see it this week, I have never seen a more rotten rear subframe  Poking about with a screwdriver created a shower of rust on the floor  The nearside lower suspension arm was totally not there, it had rotted away!

Anyway Ian doesn't fancy taking on the work so I have bought it. Hopefully the rot is mainly around the rear of the car and I can transfer the rear subframe and suspension from my breaker.

It will keep us busy over spring put it that way.........
