Doeas anyone run their GTA without the engine cover ?
Is there any difference in cooling ? Thinking it might be a good idea to remove it for the summer (thats if we get one  )

I haven't had an engine cover on in years ..................It will definitely keep it cooler ,the cover ducting/fans make the best of a bad job .
The guys with charge coolers also have to lose the cover .
I made up some latches to open the glass at the bottom slightly to get rid of the heat . The glass will get very hot when exposed to the turbo ,this may be why mine exploded  Or might have been just age ..................

I did a mod using one of the spare switches on the dash to switch on both the rad fan and the engin bay fan, as and when I wanted to cool everything down, climbing mountains, very hot days etc. Before I did this I also, like clee, had the rear glass cover explode when I went to open it in very hot weather. Just the jerk on pulling the lever was sufficient for it to explode. Just one word of warning, do not open it by lifting from just one corner. If it is hot lift gently with one hand at each corner.

Ideally I want to remove the cover and replace the glass with a louvered plastic one. Just for the Summer.
I thought Simon Autos did a louvered unit but I cant see one on his web page anymore.

My opinion is that it's there for a reason. Although I recall the Europa Cup did not run a cover?

The reason being they needed to cover the engine for safety and looks .Europa cups don't run them as it gets too hot when covered

Mine is running much cooler with a decent radiator, (Brisbane Australia 30+ degrees most days, up to 38) and surprisingly the engine bay fans rarely come on now with a new larger ball bearing Garrett turbo and 3" exhaust. It does simply produce less engine bay heat than the smaller original.

Even in traffic the temp takes a long time to rise above 90. I also fitted twin R18 sucking type fans to the rad, but they rarely have to come in.
