UN1 or 369 ???

Postby clee » Sat Feb 16, 2008 1:39 pm

Is there anyway to tell them apart ?I have a box with 33/8 teeth so that makes it 4.12 .It either a 25 Blindee or a 20 or A310 or a special ????

Simple deduction dear Watson..

If the diffs on the wrong side then then you can deduce whether its a 25/20 or a Alpine/A310..and if the diff has 4 planetary gears its a 369, if it has only two, a UN1.

..and the speedo drive is different.

How many gears has it got? Could be a Renault 30 4 speed variant..

Might just be a hash of bits. Blindee was a Renault 25 Armoured car, only a couple made in France, so it very doubtful, and the list on the net doesnt mean its fully conclusive. There could be others we don't know about.

...starting with the DeLorean... which has a 369, same ratios as a GTA atmo, but the actual gears are different even if the ratios are the same.

there should be a little disc on the end casing telling you what it is. If there isn't one, then as Dave said, it could well be some sort of "special".

I think you'll find 4.1 a bit short... especially on motorway driving. I know that A DeLorean (bigger rolling diameter than a GTA) running 3.8:1 does 4000rpm at 90mph.A stock D does 3500 or thereabouts.

i think that the teeth on the crown wheel on some of the 369 are not as thick un1 type. i.e. weak!

The pinion looks a bit knarled up but the crown looks fine ...............I got a price to fully rebuild the UN1 £800/900
I might just take it apart for an exercise when I get time .....................

You can't (ie shouldnt) mix and match pinion and diffs. They are matched pairs.

I have a good gearset from a 3.8:1 369 looking for a good home if you're interested.
